Directly managing the ISG team and associated resources, which could include inside attorneys, outside attorneys, paralegals, engineers and business managers.
Providing training and counseling to Intel’s leadership and employees participating in standards bodies on compliance with relevant law, governing rules of standards bodies, and any commitments Intel makes as part of its standards participation.
In collaboration with the various business units, developing and executing standards strategies that align with Intel’s product and business growth objectives.
Executing programs to manage any standard essential patent disclosure obligations Intel may have.
In collaboration with other policy professionals, providing international standards policy and process thought leadership.
Assisting with efficiency and other improvements and leadership matters within the legal department.
Providing other counseling to the various business units on significant legal matters.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, diligent, dedicated and critical thinker who enjoys leading a legal team but can also work independently and will have deep familiarity and experience with standards setting organizations and similar bodies, their operations, and the legal issues related to standard essential patent licensing and participation in the development of standardized technologies.
You should possess a juris doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
An active license to practice law in at least one state in the United States, with good standing and the ability to become a member of the bar or a registered-in-house counsel in California or Oregon.
A minimum of 10 years of experience either at a top law firm and/or in-house, providing legal advice on complex intellectual property matters, including significant experience advising on legal issues related to technical standards and participation in standards bodies.
At least 3 years’ prior experience managing others is preferred.
Significant experience and knowledge of the law of intellectual property, anti-trust/competition, and corporate governance, as applied to standards-related activities.
Deep familiarity with developing case law related to the licensing, valuation and enforcement of standards essential patents.
Strong insight and deep knowledge of the operation of standards bodies and their intellectual property policies.
Direct experience in the formation of standards bodies, advising related to the development of technical specifications or governance issues, the development/revision of standards’ bodies’ intellectual property policies or agreements, and/or the development of standards strategies for product businesses.
Ability to travel out-of-state and internationally as needed.
Exposure to litigation.
Ability to advise and influence all types and levels of business, legal and engineering clients and industry co-travelers effectively.
Experience in the technology, telecom or computer industry including exposure to a broad range of technologies and technical products.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex workload, lead initiatives and teams in achieving high impact results and proactively anticipating issues.
Consistent strong judgment and ability to apply legal knowledge to help create practical business solutions.
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
Stellar and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including in contract drafting, and advocacy and negotiation skills at all levels of an organization.
