The Director of Statutory Valuation will lead a Stat/Tax Valuation team of 4-6 employees for immediate and deferred annuities, pension risk transfer and funding agreements. The team consists of actuaries, actuarial students and actuarial support.
Expectations for this leader will be to improve processes and controls, as well as to produce timely and accurate Statutory and Tax reserves for quarterly and year-end financial reporting.
Continue to enhance analytics and improve understanding of liabilities to support communication of earnings and risk in current valuation period and future periods.
Automate processes, improve analytics, enhance controls using sound actuarial practices to produce liabilities in compliance with all applicable regulatory, industry and professional standards.
Stays abreast of the regulatory and legislative environment related to annuity valuation and financial reporting.
Provide support to internal/external auditors, insurance departments, Finance, Corporate Modeling team, Product Development, executive management and other departments as needed.
Documentation needed for audit trails for either audit requests or external requests.
Strong verbal and written communication of results to support Appointed Actuary, Chief Actuary, Finance, Tax and other interested parties.
Strong organizational skills and commitment to hitting tight deadlines while keeping multiple projects and tasks moving utilizing all members of the team.
Provide internal team development, coaching and training to valuation team members.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Finance· Career ASA or FSA
7+ years of actuarial experience is required including: strong knowledge of individual annuity products, valuation processes and actuarial guidelines, product development and pricing, and balance sheet/income statement concepts.
4+ years management experience. Strong organizational, communication skills and problem-solving skills.
Experience in MS Office (Excel, VBA, Access, etc).
Familiarity with valuation, modeling and controls preferred.
