Opportunity


This is a new role working as the Director – System Patient Placement in Wausau, WI at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.This position is accountable for providing strategic leadership and direction for Patient Placement Services across the Aspirus health system, ensuring the 24-hour delivery of high-quality services, managing resources and people, quality and performance improvement, and role-modeling Aspirus’ values and mission. This will include:



  • A comprehensive understanding of all components related to the admission, transfer or consult of emergent, urgent, and elective patients into an accepting facility from referring hospitals, clinics, urgent care clinics and provider offices with guaranteed appropriate level of care and timely, appropriate mode of transport in collaboration with EMS dispatch services.

  • Establishing system relationships to promote quality care across the continuum.

  • Working collaboratively to produce, nurture, and sustain a professional practice and healthy work environment that affords and enhances patient care effectiveness and efficiency through leadership to multidisciplinary teams, effective physician relationships, and a shared vision and dedication to the future of Aspirus.


Professional Experience / Qualifications



  • Knowledge of hospital management and policy administration, as well as development and implementation of budgets, effective staffing models, strategies and standards normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field.

  • A Master’s degree in Business or Healthcare related field recommended within two years of hire.

  • Previous experience in the supervision of personnel, evaluation of program operational, strategic, and quality outcomes, and budget preparation and resource utilization beneficial.

  • Knowledge of current approaches to the delivery of patient care and strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts and evidence-based practice.

  • Knowledge of current leadership, management, and performance improvement concepts and participates in developing and implementing organizational strategies to address opportunities to improve the delivery and cost efficiency of health care to patients.

  • Possesses diplomacy, problem solving, conflict management and resolution, team building, collaboration with stakeholders and disparate parties, and effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, initiative, and good judgment.

  • Utilizes strong communication and participative problem-solving skills.

  • Possesses strong analytical skills.

  • Assures collaboration and relation with all levels of employees in hospital departments, patients, and physicians to provide an optimal patient care environment.

  • Capable of making good judgments in stressful situations and is able to direct others towards positive outcomes.

  • Ability to negotiate.

  • Works collaboratively with physicians and nurses to implement change.

Wausau, Wisconsin is located in the lovely Wisconsin River valley at the center of the state. We have a metro area population of 80,000 with excellent schools, busy performing arts center, large private music conservatory, and visual arts center.


Quiet residential neighborhoods surround Lake Wausau and overlook the Wisconsin River or have views of Rib Mountain State Park. A normal commute is ten minutes to any part of town. We enjoy four seasons of recreation including all water sports, sailing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, soccer, down-hill and cross-country skiing. We are conveniently located three hours from Milwaukee and Minneapolis.
