The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for implementing EHS improvement processes at the site.The EHS Manager is responsible for developing and leading EHS programs and processes, including the engagement and alignment of employees at all levels of the site that lead to injury and incident-free performance and a robust safety culture.The EHS Manager is a member of the site’s leadership team and is expected to support all facets of the business.
The EHS Manager acts as the face of EHS to the whole workforce to ensure that all staff buy-in and implement best practice throughout all production, laboratory, and office areas, ultimately leading to their improved health and safety and lower impact on the environment.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with a hands-on approach while aligning the EHS needs of the workforce with that of the business while ensuring compliance with both internal JM requirements as well as external regulatory requirement.
•Acts as EHS liaison between workforce and management.
•Provides leadership for safety risk reduction, other EHS risk assessments, JSA, MoC activities, incident investigations, and other EHS activities.
•Provides leadership for the administration and deployment of Sevierville’s environmental, health and safety programs.
Owns Industrial Hygiene program including the development and deployment of the site Chemical Exposure Monitoring Plan, including but not limited to designing department specific sampling plans, coordinating Industrial Hygiene monitoring, review and evaluation of results against internal and external standards, and development of action plans as needed.
Owns all Occupational Health Programs including, but not limited to Respiratory Protection Program and Hearing Conservation Program including all recordkeeping, testing, and monitoring.
Implements behavioural and cultural EHS improvement programs for all levels of the organization
Establishes and maintains safety-training curriculum working with site management.
Continually audits EHS processes including, but not limited to safe-work permits, lockout tagout, and confined space entries.
Acts as Site Contractor Safety Management representative
Monitors Learning Events and follows up on corrective actions.
Leads incident investigations and tracks corrective actions
Works with other departments and onsite contractors to achieve regulatory compliance and safety targets.
Conducts regular inspections of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, safety showers, daily forklift inspections, ladders, etc.) and performs daily walk-through of plant.
Keeps current on environmental, health and safety regulations, codes and Johnson Matthey standards.
Owns all Environmental permitting, monitoring, and Maintains ISO 14001 certification.
Coordinates with site leadership to ensure implementation of Environmental Sustainability improvement targets are met year over year to ensure JM 2025 Sustainability goals are met.
Acts as Site Incident commander and liaison with outside emergency services
Acts as site security representative.
Acts as site fire prevention and control representative.
Acts as site waste management representative
Works closely with external Sector and Group EHS resources to ensure ongoing compliance.
Provides leadership for new employee EHS orientation.
Ensure that new employees receive EHS training on a timely basis.
Provides information and maintains documentation for Sevierville’s environmental, health and safety requirements.
Owns EHS toolbox and EHS site improvement plan
Responsible for site EHS compliance reporting.
Reports progress and problems to management, sector and Group in a timely fashion.
Develops procedures and forms needed to manage all functions where the position has designated leadership responsibilities.
Develops and maintains data and information needed to manage all functions where the position has responsibilities.
Develops EHS training materials, provides training or arranges for the delivery of training for all functions where the position has designated responsibilities.
Develops and directs internal auditing processes designed to identify and correct deficiencies for all applicable functions where the position has designated responsibilities.
Keeps documentation up-to-date and continuously seeks methods to improve programs.
Serves on plant EHS committees and teams as needed and directed.
Are you the ideal candidate?
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Sciences or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety regulations
Advanced knowledge of Industrial Hygiene
Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental, health & safety positions, preferably in the chemical manufacturing industry.
Self-directed, self-motivated individual with good time management skills
Good IT literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
Hands on leader with good people management skills
Ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization
Familiarity with environmental permitting
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent interpersonal skills.Individual must be able to build strong relationships across diverse groups and participate effectively on cross-functional teams.
Experience with implementing procedures and conducting training.
