The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Development office (VPS OOD), a part of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), is dedicated to facilitating relationships that support the vision and mission of CUIMC and VP&S to advance medical education, achieve scientific breakthrouCompany, and provide the best possible patient care across a range of specialized departments, centers and programs.


Position Summary


Incumbent will report to the Senior Executive Director (SED) and will manage and lead fundraising efforts related to the Pediatrics program, including the Department of Pediatrics and other pediatric sCompanypecialties. The incumbent will work closely with the SED and the ChInstituteman of the Department of Pediatrics, as well as other key faculty leaders. They will manage multi-level assignments, serve as internal and external liaison to CUIMC related areas and programs, and with the SED, manage all aspects of the Children’s Board at Columbia, including working closely with Board members and oversight for the annual Children’s Board Gala and other volunteer groups, such as the Babies Heart Fund and its Board. Incumbent will lead a small team and will independently manage a significant portfolio of major gift donors and prospects consisting of individuals, foundations and corporations; develop strategies and cultivate relationships that lead to solicitation and stewardship of major gifts; serve as primary liaison to the departments, centers, institutes and programs in the Health Sciences and several external groups including advisory boards, support groups or other community outreach programs; participate in prospect assessment and assignment processes.Supervisory and management responsibilities of staff in clinical areas and as assigned; annually prepare objectives for the upcoming academic year. 


Responsibilities


Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects consisting of individuals, foundations, and corporations who have the ability to make principal or major gifts. Prepare and submit proposals, cultivate prospects, track results; keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at CUIMC. Identify, qualify and develop strategies and cultivate relationships that lead to solicitation and stewardship of major gifts of $100,000 and above – 30%


Serve as liaison to CUIMC related areas and programs, including the Department of Pediatrics plus track pediatric specialties in other Departments; with the SED, manage all aspects of the Children’s Board at Columbia - 30%


Supervise two Directors of Development and an Associate Director of Development – 20%


Participate in prospect assessment and assignment processes– 10%


Annually prepare objectives for the upcoming academic year (e.g., dollars to be raised, solicitations planned, and cultivation/stewardship activities) to discuss with SED so that mutually agreed criteria can be established – 5%


Other duties and special projects as assigned – 5%


Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus seven years of related experience.


Board management and Capital Campaign experience


Preferred Qualifications


Master’s degree preferred


At least six years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising or a related field, preferably in a health care or higher education environment
