Gilead is advancing a pipeline of novel investigational agents for inflammatory diseases, addressing multiple targets with potential application across a broad range of disorders. In this role, you will drive the global commercial strategy for our Inflammation treatment therapies for a specific disease state. From clinical trial design, clinical endpoints, lifecycle management and new indications, you’ll be providing insights and partnering with local markets, R&D, Medical Affairs, Value and Access, Clinical Development, Governmental Affairs and other functions to drive an integrated, global Inflammation strategy.  


Key Responsibilities 


Reporting to the Vice President, Global Commercial Product Strategy Inflammation & Respiratory, this role will be responsible for leading all commercial aspects from pre-clinical to Phase 3 for a large number of Gilead pipeline assets plus assets from the partnership with Galapagos including GLGP-1690 in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), currently in Phase 3. 


Evaluate commercial opportunities and develop business cases for pre-POC assets under development, and working with R&D development teams to ensure plans have the potential to deliver differentiated products and commercial value 


Establish a strong collaborative partnership with R&D and Value & Access to effectively incorporate market intelligence and commercial perspectives into scientific research and development plans, including trial endpoints/designs, target product profiles, commercial assessments and implications of development options 


Leverage deep customer, market and competitive insights to support the creation of differentiated product and disease-state strategies 


Support the effective progression of programs through development stages by researching disease states and developing patient flows, situation assessments, target product profiles, and strategic options to maximize program value and return 


Conduct situation assessments, including competitive landscapes, customer segmentation, forecasts and value & access trends for disease area opportunities and translate insights into strategies 


Synthesize the commercial perspectives, insights and results needed to identify future market opportunities and review external opportunities for potential acquisition and partnering, balancing near-term and long-term priorities for commercial viability 


Partner with key market leaders to solicit regional insights, share global perspectives and integrate into global strategies 


Work closely with Global Analytics & Insights/Finance to develop commercial assessments and preliminary forecast assumptions to quantify launch potential 


Your ultimate benchmark will be the successful development of differentiated molecules that maximize the overall value and potential patient reach 


Transition the lead asset to the Brand team ~3 years prior to launch  


Knowledge, Skills and Experience 


We’re seeking a strategic, influential leader with: 


At least 15 years of relevant commercial leadership experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, including strategic planning and lifecycle brand management 


Substantial inflammation/respiratory-specific experience and market knowledge in inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gastro-intestinal or lung diseases, etc., ideally from pre-clinical to Phase 3 


Extensive experience with the clinical development process and its relevant commercial inputs plus business development 


Experience in working in co-promotion / partnerships with other companies a plus 


Strong experience in disease area opportunity assessment and the evaluation of partnership and pipeline opportunities. Opportunistic thinker with strong judgement and analytical mindset 


Experience with global access and pricing strategy, including building a value story and evidence planning 


Ability to develop deep collaborations with partners in Clinical Development, Development, Value & Access, and Regulatory groups as well as senior leadership 


Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully with varied audiences and executives 


Strong analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and interpret complex issues and provide appropriate recommendations to senior management and across functional areas 


B.A. or B.S. required, MBA and/or advanced degree in life sciences or medical degree preferred
