The Executive Director will report to and carry out the following responsibilities in coordination with the Founder, Board of Directors and relevant Board committees. The person will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization, carrying overall responsibility for the Rise Up Fund’s operations and vision, including: fundraising, personnel, family selection and support, financial oversight, volunteer management and public relations and marketing. The Executive Director is the public face of the organization, responsible for representing Houwzer and the Rise Up Fund before numerous constituencies and audiences.


The Executive Director is responsible for managing staff in all areas of operation, including implementing Houwzer’s vision

Provide leadership and convey the organization’s vision to all nonprofit and company personnel 

The ED will be responsible for recruitment, hiring, supervision and annual evaluation of all Rise Up Fund staff.

Identify and recommend training and development opportunities for staff as appropriate and ensure compliance with all pertinent employment laws and regulations 


The Rise Up Fund will rely on a diverse funding base from individuals, corporations, foundations and, in some circumstances, government sources. The ED will be responsible for the preparation of an annual fundraising plan which will include the means to identify and cultivate new donors in each of these categories, and stewardship of existing supporters 

Financial Management

The ED will oversee the preparation of the annual budget and longer term financial projections, and manage day-to-day financial operations

Regularly report to the Board and Founder on the Fund’s financial status and oversee the preparation of the audited financial statements 


The ED will be responsible for developing and implementing a plan to achieve production goals and plan for growth in close coordination with various departments at Houwzer

The ED is responsible for attracting and maintaining relationships with families 

Public Relations/Communications

Serve alongside the Founder as chief spokesperson for the organization, responsible for representing and articulating the mission and vision

The ED will be responsible for the maintenance of current constituencies such as funders, volunteers, homeowners and community residents, as well as cultivating new audiences and supporters for the fund’s work. This includes outreach to the media, elected officials, public policy makers and other private and public organizations.

The ED is also responsible for the oversight of all written materials describing the Rise Up Fund, including newsletters, annual reports, brochures and other publicity materials. 

Office Administration

The ED is responsible for working closely with general counsel on all necessary state and federal filings and for overseeing the office administration, including support for the Board and committees. 

Board Direction

Working with the Board President to schedule and organize board activity; development of the board 

Managing and coordinating board meetings  

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience

Outstanding leadership skills.

Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree desirable, but not required.

Minimum of 5 years of management experience, including five at a leadership level.

Knowledge of housing and community development issues, particularly in an urban setting.

Demonstrated expertise in fundraising.

Excellent communication skills.

Experience in managing a diverse team of staff, board and volunteers.

Ability to interact and communicate with broad and diverse constituencies.

Vision-driven, with organizational strategic planning abilities.
