Internship Description

HR Directions seeks a prospect for its client RTI International for the Innovation Strategy Consulting Internship within the Innovation Advisors.

RTI's Innovation Advisors help clients optimize their organization, processes, and people to deliver innovative products and services globally. These clients include governments, companies, universities, and foundations. The intern will help IA leverage the latest academic thinking around innovation strategy and management towards winning and delivering strategic innovation services for our clients.

The Innovation Strategy Consulting Internship will expose the selected intern to work alongside and receive mentorship by the Innovation Advisors and staff to conduct tasks related to market research and commercialization of new technologies that are often outside the scope of a candidate's current study or experience. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Conducting research using secondary resources (published company information, SEC filings, scholarly journals, trade literature, and news articles), as well as primary resources (phone interviews) when needed,

Providing insightful analysis of opportunities identified during primary and secondary research in written and oral format

Developing marketing descriptions of new technologies and conduct research in a wide range of technology areas and industries

Understanding business and legal issues related to commercialization of new technologies

Employing commercialization and innovation-related frameworks, such as the business model canvas and value

Additional Information

This virtual, paid internship will take place from early June 2020 through late August 2020. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.  

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled (for the duration of the internship) Duke PhD student

Demonstrated comfort and willingness to regularly work outside the scope of the candidate's technical field of study, including communication with technical experts

Exceptional written and oral communication, time management, and analytical skills

Detail-oriented and able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Interest in shared thought leadership 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred field of study is in engineering or science, with a career interest in innovation, technology commercialization and consulting

Motivated, hardworking student with a passion for technology commercialization and consulting

Experience in business, strategy, management are preferred
