The Inpatient Operations Director reflects the mission, vision, and values of Eskenazi Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics, and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Inpatient Operations Director is responsible for coordinating all business services including staffing and productivity management, materials management support and analysis, service line development and oversight, and budget preparation, management and analysis for assigned services. This position is instrumental in providing key operational oversight and support for assigned services and programs and leads in the development of strategies to successfully compete for market penetration.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Demonstrates effective problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills

Demonstrates the ability to help troubleshoot nursing and clinical issues that can't be resolved by the staff; directs to other areas as appropriate

Actively participates with all disciplines in the implementation of the mission, vision and values of Eskenazi Health, and ensures PRIDE standards of behavior are instilled in the culture of inpatient care areas

Acts as an effective change agent; understands and applies change management and system concepts and how they are used to be an effective leader

Promotes the development of future staff and leaders

Understands, supports and participates in the implementation of work redesign to meet departmental and organizational strategic goals

Establishes and maintains collegial and effective working relationships with staff and other departments

Understands and is accountable for nursing practice and standards for all who deliver nursing care; knowledgeable of the Indiana Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics; able to ensure practice from all levels of staff meet those standards: RN, LPN, paramedic, patient care technician, clerical staff and students

"Rounds for outcomes" with patients, families, staff and other members of the team

Demonstrates understanding and supports the role of shared governance at the unit level and hospital-wide to help in engaging employees to achieve or exceed organizational goals

Demonstrates knowledge of customer service concepts and applies to personal practice. Ensures patient satisfaction data and feedback are reviewed with staff consistently and that patient satisfaction improvements are part of the unit's quality improvement plan

Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational standards/policies and they participate in appropriate training

Assists with continuous quality improvement and risk management programs at the departmental level in a collaborative manner with multi-disciplinary colleagues

Monitors and enforces compliance for quality, service and regulatory compliance

Understands and implements the Joint Commission standards and other regulatory requirements and effectively communicate these to the staff and physicians

Facilitates the development and implementation of evidence-based practices through research and quality efforts

Develops and implements processes, policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services

Participates in Value Analysis team to assist with identification of quality cost effective strategies

Participates in budget/management development of operational and capital equipment

Utilizes staffing resources to assure quality care and maintain throughput; monitors and adjusts staffing patterns to meet productivity, able to justify variances

Performs as a highly visible colleague and mentor, developing the confidence and capturing the spirit of staff and management to achieve a dynamic, positive and supportive environment

Creates a departmental culture that fosters a healthy work environment as demonstrated by low turnover rates, the voice of the employee survey and NDNQI RN survey results

Participates in the evaluation of staff by providing input, supporting development and coaching

Demonstrates the ability to bring a multi-disciplinary team together to achieve the service or program goals

Develops and maintains productive, collaboration relationships with other departments who are key in the development and achievement of departmental goals

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial/Management Engineering or other related field with healthcare knowledge or experience

Master's degree in Business/Hospital Administration or minimum of 6 years in hospital business management preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to create, maintain, and review financial reports

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to work under pressure of deadlines

Ability to think independently and adjust project or analysis direction based on data collected and analyzed at a given point

Ability to monitor scheduling, various billing systems, and budget preparation
