An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced Lead Process Control and Automation Systems Engineer to join GE Power Conversion’s Systems Engineering group to deliver world-leading Automation Control solutions worldwide.

As a member of a multi-disciplined team, the Lead Automation Systems Engineer will lead and work with a wider engineering team to deliver world-leading automation control solutions and systems worldwide, involving Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), that meet defined operational and customer requirements, principally within (but not limited to) the Industries, Marine and Naval segments.

Job Description

Most important responsibilities/tasks

  • Specify, design and document automation system technical solutions for a diverse range of projects and technologies to meet specific application requirements (Project planning, Conceptual design, Functional and Safety design, Detailed design, Hardware design, Build procedures, Test procedures, etc.).

  • Design and Implement PLC and HMI software and hardware to meet specific customer and application requirements of the Automation systems.

  • Verification, validation and testing of the Automation systems.

  • Ensure Automation solutions comply with the company policies and relevant Health & Safety standards and regulations.

  • Coordinate, plan, lead and execute projects, liaison with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors. to attain on-time delivery, cost and quality targets on projects.

  • Apply engineering standards and development of standard design practices.

  • Provide technical assistance to the businesses (tendering, development, site installation and commissioning and customers).


  • Degree level in electrical/electronic engineering (or equivalent)

  • Knowledge and implementation of PLC Programming (IEC61131 Function Block, Ladder, Structured text, etc.), and HMI/SCADA Systems Programming (e.g. iFIX, InTouch, Cimplicity)

  • Knowledge and implementation of PLC Hardware (PLC systems, I/O systems, HMI systems)

  • Knowledge and implementation of Industrial protocols (TCP/IP, EGD, OPC, OPC-UA, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP, IEC61850, etc.)
