To develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet annual and long-range goals focused on Major and Principal Gift (MGPG) donors and prospects. The Managing Director will lead a talented team of geographically-diverse frontline fundraisers and support staff responsible for raising more than half of the institution’s unrestricted funding, as well as restricted funding, from individual donors and family foundations giving at annual levels of $10,000 and above. The Managing Director will develop high-level engagement strategies, conduct in-person cultivation and solicitation meetings, and support Executive and Board interactions with top donors, prospects and, connectors. Collaborating with Development staff and other Departments, the Managing Director will promote strategic alignment and a strong fundraising culture across the institution. The Managing Director will deploy fundraising best practices, define priorities for the MGPG team, and optimize operational efficiency, building a coordinated, inspired and high-functioning team.
Manages team of geographically-diverse frontline fundraisers and support staff responsible for raising more than half of the institution’s unrestricted funding, as well as restricted funding, from major and principal individual donors and family foundations giving at annual levels of $10,000 and above.
Manages a personal portfolio of 20-30 top individual prospects and donors; responsible for achieving revenue target for portfolio, agreed upon annually with CDO.
In consultation with the CDO and Finance, evaluates and sets annual MGPG fundraising projections, monitors progress, and adjusts plans as needed to meet goals.
Influences the development of individual fundraising strategies for the institution’s top solicitors, including Board members and senior executives.
Oversees MGPG team’s involvement in campaigns, events and other priority fundraising initiatives.
Collaborates with other Development units and staff to ensure intradepartmental coordination and optimal giving across channels; serves as member of Development Leadership Team, led by the CDO.
Collaborates with other PIH Departments and Sites to ensure strategic alignment and operational efficiency.
Applies data analytics and decision-making tools to evaluate MGPG fundraising efforts and related operations; deploys quality and process improvement techniques to optimize fundraising effectiveness, sustain high-level support, and grow the MGPG fundraising file and giving levels.
Provides ongoing coaching, training, inspiration and support; establishes clear accountability for team members; and ensures an atmosphere that encourages open and respectful communication.
Commitment to philanthropic values and service
10+ years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising or direct donor management
Strong knowledge principal giving best practices
Experience in developing donor strategies, briefing and request materials, solicitation approaches and donor stewardship for major donors and prospects
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and prospective donors
Understanding of the complexities of fundraising for a large, federated nonprofit
Superior written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of fundraising software and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Able to travel domestically and internationally, including international travel to remote or hard to access locations with limited infrastructure.
Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries.
