The Opportunity.  


Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO), the Managing Director of Finance will oversee the people and systems which support our strategic financial objectives.This role is designed to be a blend of team leadership, financial systems management and business analytics.We expect the Managing Director of Finance to work in close partnership with the CFAO to consistently monitor and demonstrate the relationship between Trustees resources and short- and long-term goals.This is a great opportunity for an adaptable and strong leader to create statewide impact by working closely with the CFAO to look beyond the numbers to identify trends and new possibilities.


 


Are you a match? 


The Managing Director of Finance and Administration will have at least 10 years of management experience, with at least five years being the primary manager of the financial systems for a $20 million to $80 million organization or business unit.The successful candidate will have experience in either a Controller role or experience leading nonprofit financial audits.Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting would be helpful, but not mandatory.Nonprofit experience is a plus, with a strong preference for someone who has operated in a fast-growing environment that has limited budgets and resources.


 


In This Role You Will.


Organizational Leadership:


Work closely with the CFAO and the Executive Team to develop departmental budgets and strategic financial plans. The Managing Director of Finance and Administration will act as the primary liaison to departmental leadership to ensure strong financial management and planning throughout the company. 

Continually evaluate best industry practices in comparison to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward both future needs and budget realities.

Team Leadership:


The Managing Director will have direct management responsibility for four staff members: Director of Financial Analysis, Planning and Implementation, Director of Finance, Director of Accountingand a Grants Accountant. 

Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, ensuring direct reports and senior leaders within their department elevate their impact and performance.

Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward clear vision and goals, by communicating vision, and implementing yearly staff performance evaluations and development plans.

Finance and Budgeting:


Manage the review and approval of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the CFAO and Executive Team.


Lead the organizational budgeting process.


Prepare annual forecasts.


Lead long-term financial forecasting.


Manage the preparation and execution of the year end audit.


Produce monthly financial packages to reflect current performance and annual forecasts.


Assess, manage and minimize financial risk across the organization.


Provide financial support to the organization to evaluate new opportunities and to conduct post-audits on investments.


Use Business Intelligence tools to analyze complex financial data, establish financial KPI’s and develop reporting scorecards.


Work closely with the OCIO (Outsourced Chief Investment Officer) regarding the management of endowment funds.


Work in a collaborative manner with other corporate-based functional department heads, field-based general managers, with respect to financial policies, procedures, and controls.


Financial management:


Direct the preparation of the Trustee’s annual operating plan, capital budgets and multi-year forecasts.


Overall financial management responsibility including the review and approval of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the CFAO and Executive Team.


Produce monthly financial packages to reflect current performance and annual forecasts.


Provide financial support to the organization to evaluate new opportunities and to conduct post-audits on investments.


Use Business Intelligence tools to analyze complex financial data, establish financial KPI’s and develop reporting scorecards.


Serve as counsel to the CFAO on accounting/financial matters including the operating, capital budgets, and financial projections.


Advise senior staff on key strategic issues and decisions, informed by rigorous financial analyses, risk assessments, "what if" scenario modeling and due diligence.


Accounting:


In close partnership with the Director of Accounting, oversee the accounting and related financial activities of the Trustees to ensure sound fiscal administration, ensuring that procedures, practices, and reports comply with applicable regulations, standard practice, and GAAP.


Establish appropriate policies and internal control procedures to safeguard assets of The Trustees.


Lead the preparation and execution of the annual audit process and be the primary liaison with external auditors.


Work closely with the OCIO regarding management and reporting of endowment funds.


Direct the preparation of tax returns and related reports to ensure compliance with non-profit reporting requirements.


Lead the accounting function's preparation of the financial portion of grant reports and billings to ensure compliance with requirements and policies of funding sources.


Work in a collaborative manner with other corporate-based functional department heads, field-based general managers, with respect to financial policies, procedures, and controls.

Other Information

Prior Experience:


Education:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; CPA required.


At least 10 years of staff management experience.


Significant experience with non-profit accounting.


Significant experience with audit and budget development.


Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.


Experience effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, the Board or other outside partners/influencers/clients.
