Leading Manufacturing / Operations Company is hiring a Manager of OpEx for our Anniston, AL location! The OpEx Manager directs, leads and manages operational excellence activities in product development, production operations and administrative / transactional functions.


Technical activity is centered on developing and executing value stream improvement plans to reduce cycle time, improve productivity, lower cost and improve value-add. The Operational Excellence Manager is involved in the coordination and hands-on execution of kaizen events and A3 projects in a team environment. The Operational Excellence Manager will develop operational excellence program objectives, performance standards, and improvement project plans to meet annual savings commitments.


Additional Responsibilities Include:

Develop and implement value stream improvement plans to achieve business objectives for safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity.

Develop cost, schedule and quality control plans, and define scope of work to organize, authorize, and measure project performance. Establish technical objectives, priorities, and approach to achieve and sustain cost targets.

Manage activities of direct reports as assigned.

Develop and delivers training to functional leaders and supervisors in principles of Lean and Six Sigma as applied to transactional and manufacturing operations.

Assist Operations Director with strategy deployment process and coordination/preparation of cadence meetings and scorecard reviews.

Create and maintain improvement project funnel and assist managers in the development of projnect charters and estimated savings.

Develop and deploy visual management tools to support rapid identification of process abnormalities and to confirm the timely application of effective countermeasures.

Determine priorities and assign personnel to tasks in above areas and measure timeliness and quality of goal achievement. Conduct communications meetings to address personnel and project needs and convey management decisions and division strategy to the staff. Prepare performance appraisals and conduct quarterly reviews. Ensure that proper training is provided to the staff within schedule and budget constraints.

Provide guidance and work with supporting functional organization leaders to assure technical strategies of the division are aligned with site Objectives and Key Results (OKR’s)

Maintain knowledge of evolving technologies and support business development activities for application of these technologies in current product lines or derivative products.


Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience

Possesses broad technical, administrative, and management skills to oversee multiple improvement projects while operating in a matrixed environment.

Is able to evaluate and solve complex technical and business problems working with direct reports, program management and others who require extensive investigation and analysis.

Makes system-level decisions regarding technical approach and tools application, resource allocations, and schedule constraints.

Exercises authority, typically through delegation to others, to implement plans or initiate projects within a given area.

Must have knowledge of trends in industry, what competitors are doing, and knowledge of the division’s business, strategy, and future plans. Develops and applies knowledge of customer’s needs and coordinates Leading Manufacturing / Operations Company resources to meet customer needs. Directs proposal activity in pursuit of new business.

Guides others in translating strategic plan into operational or tactical plans.

Conducts effective meetings, discussions and presentations.

Practices and contributes to corporate, division, and department mission and culture.

Ability to communicate with high-ranking internal and external individuals, including Leading Manufacturing / Operations Company customers.

High degree of self-motivation.

Skilled in understanding, selecting, motivating, influencing, evaluating, and developing people in achieving goals through leadership, team-building, and teamwork.

Requires planning to ensure the effective execution of assigned functional responsibilities.

Requires the ability to accommodate change in plans and to integrate plans with overall division business plans.


Preferred Skills and Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business operations with a minimum 10 years experience in an Operational Excellence role.

Certification at Black Belt level or higher in lean Six Sigma.

Experience leading multiple Kaizen events (ideally 20 or more).

Experience leading process improvement projects across multiple years.

Demonstrated experience saving $1 million or more / year.
