The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS, a major affiliate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, is seeking one full time Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Subspecialist faculty/staff physician to serve as the Associate Chief for Medical Service. The incumbent will serve as the first line supervisor for a portion of clinical Medical Service employees. .
Work Schedule: M-F 8 AM - 4:30 PM (other times as required)

Administrative Duties may include, but are not limited to, serving as Acting Service Chief in the absence of the Chief, working with the Service Chief and Assistant Chiefs on faculty and program development, collaboration with nurse practitioners, other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine or their designee. The incumbent will also provide patient care in their area of expertise by way of ward attending, and/or inpatient/outpatient consultation and clinics and other clinical services specific to specialty training if applicable. Research and other scholarly activity are encouraged and available. Past supervisory and administrative experience as well as past affiliation with an academic institution is preferred. BE or BC in Internal Medicine or an Internal Medicine Subspecialty --if subspecialty trained, maintained BE or BC in Internal Medicine, and those who have credentials sufficient for academic appointment to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Medicine is preferred. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
