The Associate Chief of Staff, Specialty Care Service will be responsible for the delivery of health care services and will provide supervision of Service Chief's for the Audiology; Dental; Diagnostic (Radiology and Cardiopulmonary); Laboratory; Pharmacy; Ophthalmology; Physical Medicine & Rehab; and Clinical Registrar. The ACOS will oversee, in collaboration with respective Service Chiefs, the development of policies and procedures, performance standards, administrative responsibilities of employee's description of duties, other clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure that the mission of the service and facility has been satisfied.

The ACOS will monitor and promote compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to appropriate health care consults and referrals for all direct-care patients.

Will serve as a direct report to the Chief of Staff and ensures that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VHA and Network Office (VISN 17)

Monitor and ensures medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, federal and state rules and regulations, VA facility policies, OIG, Joint commission standards and other appropriate regulations.

Oversees, in collaboration with respective Service Chiefs, the preparation of special reports and responses, Congressional responses, briefing papers, issue briefs, and decision papers, issue briefs, and decision papers, which may be highly sensitive, confidential, and of a complex nature, for the facility leadership.

Oversees, in collaboration with respective Services Chiefs, the monitoring of staff clinical performance, and completion of staff performance appraisals, other clinical and administrative responsibilities to ensure that the mission of the service and the facility has been satisfied. May set training objectives for staff and delegate responsibilities to subordinate sections.

Participates in the selection of intradepartmental staff to ensure that the most qualified staff are recruited, trained, supervised, and retained. Actively serves as a clinical liaison and content expert providing periodic reports to the Chief of Staff of the Specialty Services.

Monitors and evaluates the quality of medical services as an integral part of the overall quality assessments and improvement program and assuring compliance with VA, Joint Commission and all other pertinent regulations/policies and procedures.

Must be computer proficient including electronic health records and data analytics


Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and may vary by hiring facility.

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Internal Medicine/Family Practice.
