Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System (SLVHCS) is recruiting for a full-time position to serve as the Assistant Chief of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC), based in New Orleans, Louisiana. This position offers a unique opportunity as SLVHCS continues to grow and develop a full array of clinical services within the Geriatrics and Extended Care Service associated with the new medical campus.

The incumbent will also serve as the Section Chief of Extended Care, which includes oversight of the CLC, inpatient consultative services, and outpatient clinics. We currently provide care through a broad range of coordinated services within the home, clinic, community, in-patient, and institutional settings. Current GEC programs include Home Based Primary Care (HBPC), Hospital @ Home (HinH), Medical Foster Home, Palliative Care Outpatient Consultative Service, Purchased Skilled Care, Contract Nursing Home, Contract Adult Day Care Services, Respite Services, Home Tele-health, Home Hospice, Community Living Centers (CLC), Geriatric Outpatient Clinic, Geriatric Inpatient Consultative Service, Palliative Care Inpatient Consultative Service. Future GEC services include Inpatient Hospice Care.
Incumbent will have a record of accomplishments clinically, academically, and administratively.
Reports to and works with the Chief, Geriatrics & Extended Care and may provide administrative coverage in the absence of the Chief/GEC.
Participate in providing attending-level oversight for the Extended Care beds of the Community Living Center, working with an interdisciplinary team.
May also provide medical supervision to fellows and residents; may serve as a collaborating/supervising physician to advanced practice professionals; however, is not administratively responsible for supervision.
Mmay serve on medical center, VISN and/or national committees.
Take part in continuing medical education (as defined by licensure), and quality assurance activities. Other duties, as assigned by the GEC Service Chief. Expertise and/or BC/BE in Geriatric Medicine is preferred. Minimum 5 years management experience in Geriatrics. Experience in building programs. Successful grant submissions. Publications in the last 5 years. Teaching experience to Medical Students and Residents/Fellows. In addition, the candidate may qualify for an academic appointment with the academic affiliate(s).
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m. or as needed.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
