The Ultra Assurance function is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and fulfilment of Ultra's Quality Policy, which is to comply fully in the conduct of the Company's business with all applicable regulatory and customer required specifications, and to maintain an effective Quality Management System, working in partnership with the Operations and Engineering teams to ensure that products and processes conform to applicable standards and specifications, and the incidence and costs of quality non-conformances are constantly monitored and improved, while maintaining the highest practicable standards of manufacturing productivity and efficiency.

The Quality Engineering function in Ultra verifies compliance to company processes and documented procedures to ensure a robust Quality Management System is in place throughout the business. The function identifies, maintains and recommends quality business improvement processes required to maintain company quality approvals, working closely with all levels of internal and external customers including approval authorities.

A professional at this grade applies technical / professional knowledge, making independent judgements based on practice and significant previous experience to support decision making. Often seen as a referral point or more senior team member to escalate more complex problems. Roles will act independently with minimal guidance, and may act as project managers/formal mentors for junior staff.

Perform Quality System activities in support of customer and regulatory requirements (ISO 9001 & AS9100). Active participation in audit processes including customer survey requests, on-site audits for customers, regulatory, government, both foreign and domestic, and internal network.

Drives compliance across the site which includes but is not limited to: Quality Management System, Quality System, Production & Process Controls, Corrective and Preventive Actions. Additionally, drives site and modality quality related projects and initiatives, QMS implementation activities, inspection readiness and works on opportunities for improving effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures process compliance through the development of comprehensive procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, templates, checklists, and other product and process related documentation.

  • Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest functional developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and process development and ensures delivery within area of responsibility.

  • Skilled influencer, able to communicate complex messages to others. Collaborates with colleagues in Quality and internal customers. May lead projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems that impact the function. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

  • Leads process efficiency and compliance effectiveness through the development and implementation of equipment qualification and process validation, including Master Validation Plans (Site Level), Validation Master Plans (Product or Process specific plans), and the development of detailed process flow diagrams that describe critical process interdependencies with respect to process inputs, outputs, risks, and impacts. Utilizes risk management tools.

  • Supports continuous product and process improvement through detailed failure analysis for non-conformances, and investigates, develops, and implements effective and compliant solutions for product or process corrections, retrospective, and remediation action plans, and for corrective and preventive actions.

Required Skills

  • 9+ years in a quality role

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or related technical field

  • 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S citizens.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in aerospace and energy products manufacturing environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated experience working in a lab and/or manufacturing facilities

  • Lean Manufacturing Knowledge

  • Accuracy and detail in record keeping

  • Ability to apply basic quality tools (e.q. fishbone diagrams, flow charts, etc.) and coordinate product dispositioning & corrective action.

  • Ability to effectively communicate plans and technical information at all levels (written and verbal).

  • Experience with safety critical products and industry regulations (either aerospace and or nuclear)

  • Ability to review data artifacts to assess compliance to the cited standards, including audits of technical data and technical review checklists to assess correctness and completeness.

  • Ability to create metrics based on observations and recognize trends across data items and projects

  • Working knowledge of the SAP Quality module.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T.

  • Knowledge & experience with AS9102 forms

  • Experience in the nuclear Industry

  • Knowledge of industry, government, and international quality system standards and their application to the nuclear environment.
