Honeywell UOP, headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, USA, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. UOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honeywell International, Inc. and is part of Honeywell’s Performance Materials and Technologies strategic business group.
Honeywell UOP is seeking a qualified individual to function in the role of an analyst in the X-ray and Modeling group. This career opportunity is available for an Engineer/Scientist - R&D within our Materials Characterization department, part of UOP’s Research & Development organization. The individual should have practical experience characterizing materials using powder X-ray diffraction analysis.
The position will involve XRD analysis in an industrial environment, applied to a broad range of materials. The successful candidate will be expected to perform day to day lab operations and instrument scheduling, operate and maintain XRD instruments, perform both routine and specialized analysis, assemble data analysis summaries and play a supporting role in research projects. The individual will work on teams interacting and collaborating with lab technicians, chemists, chemical/mechanical engineers and scientists from a broad cross-section of technical fields. For a successful candidate, the position will provide intellectual challenge, increasing responsibility and the ability to work on a variety of complex and challenging materials characterization problems.
YOU MUST HAVE
-Minimum B.S. in Materials Science/Engineering, Physics, Chemistry
-Experience in X-Ray Diffraction and the associated analysis software
-PhD. in Materials Science/Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related
-In-depth, operational knowledge and experience of multiple XRD techniques and instruments
-Experience with sample preparation methods for XRD and characterizing a variety of materials
-Strong demonstration of teamwork abilities
-Practical, hands-on lab experience, including troubleshooting and basic instrument maintenance
-Computer skills including use of dedicated XRD software, Microsoft Office applications and scripting/coding experience
-Eagerness to get involved in hands-on work
-Familiarity and knowledge of other materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SEM/EDS, XAS, NMR, TPD, and FTIR.
-Solid knowledge of inorganic/materials chemistry
-Excellent communication skills to understand and document project requirements and to effectively convey analysis results to other disciplines.
-Excellent project management and prioritization skills
-Ideal candidate is high-energy, creative, and a self-starter, who demonstrates technical excellence and is comfortable working in a lab-based team environment.
