The Risk division is responsible for credit, market and operational risk, model risk, independent liquidity risk, and insurance throughout the firm.


Divisional Overview:

The Risk Division is a team of specialists charged with managing the firm’s credit, market, liquidity, operational and insurance risk. Whether assessing the creditworthiness of the firm’s counterparties, monitoring market risks associated with trading activities, or offering analytical and regulatory compliance support, our work contributes directly to the firm’s success. Department Overview:

Credit Risk (CR) is responsible for managing the firm’s credit exposure to its trading and lending counterparties. Leveraging its extensive expertise in financial, credit and risk analysis, CR ensures that credit exposure to our counterparts is managed within the firm’s risk appetite. Staffed with more than 270 professionals, CR operates through 12 different offices around the world and credit professionals work closely with many areas of the firm. Given this structure, CR professionals gain diverse financial experience and a broad perspective on how the entire firm functions. The interaction with numerous departments and the range of projects that ensue allow for a challenging, varied and multi-dimensional work environment.


Assess the credit and financial strength of the firm's Oil & Gas borrowers and counterparts by performing fundamental credit analysis of counterparties using both quantitative and qualitative factors

Analyze the credit implications on corporate clients of various financial transactions including debt, equity and hybrid offerings, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and share repurchases

Coordinate with the business (IBD and Sales and Trading) to approve lending and derivative business and ensure appropriate documentation and risk mitigants to protect against a defaults and minimize potential losses

Recommends appropriate internal and regulatory risk rating for each customer/transaction as required

Assess valuations of E&P reserves for loans / derivatives governed by borrowing base (reserve based lending, or “RBL”) taking into account recommendations from independent reserve engineer, regulatory guidelines and basin(s)/other reserve characteristics. Incorporates collateral analysis in credit opinion

Proactively monitors and assesses assigned borrowers/industry subsectors including market data such as share price, CDS or loan secondary price or other appropriate indices and reports the information and its impact on credits/industries to Senior Management in a timely manner


Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 7 years of credit risk management experience, with a background in corporate credit risk

Significant experience in investment banking products including loan products and derivatives

Has Oil & Gas Industry and non-IG experience, including RBL for smaller E&P companies

Demonstrable track record of independent decision making and the ability to steer client and business negotiations

Strong familiarity with regulatory rating requirements (SNC) and application of such guidance

Strong documentation (i.e. credit agreements, ISDA/CSA, NAESB, Power Annex, Gas EDI etc), analytical, presentational and communication skills required

Must be able to lead and motivate engaged and diverse deal team, providing guidance to and supervision of junior members of the team

Must be able to communicate at the most senior levels
