Leading Manufacturing / Operations Company Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Section Manager - Special Programs Structural Design 2 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

You will report to the Department Manager of the Vehicle Structures department within the Vehicle Engineering Center of Excellence. You will engage a team consisting of up to 15 mechanical design engineers ranging from T01 to TA5 located primarily in El Segundo, CA.
The focus of this section is the design and development of advanced composite structures and mechanical systems for air vehicles. Approximately 15 percent of the section head’s time will be spent performing functional homeroom duties such as:
Attend functional staff meetings
Management of personnel including performance review, direction and coaching
Coordinate of job assignments, staffing, recruit and develop IRAD projects and process improvement.
Support technology and business development activities
Support proposals (generate schedules and cost estimates) and support design reviews.
You will be responsible for cost, schedule and technical performance for the Engineering IPT. This includes management of budgets using the EVMS, reporting of variances and all MRB actions.
A successful Section Manager will have excellent communication skills, experience in creating teams, a firm understanding of the design and development process of advanced composite structures, global supply chain, manufacturing engineering, planning, quality engineering and configuration management.
A Bachelor of Science degree in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, or Mathematics) technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 5 years of design experience with an emphasis on the mechanical design of composite structures
Active DOD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SAP clearances.
An advanced degree in engineering (Mechanical, Engineering, Aerospace or Civil Engineering) or a related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university.
Subject Matter Expert level knowledge of composite materials and processes, mechanical and bonded joint processes and designs.
Development of design processes and experience in the management of NCTA funded activities.
