Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the Senior Associate Director has overall responsibilities in managing the day to day generalist operations of the HR office, involving performance management and employee relations.This candidate will assist the Senior Director on compensation planning in keeping with University central policies and School guidelines.The Senior Associate Director will assist the Senior Director in providing guidance and counseling to managers with regard to staffing and conflict management and will assist in collaborating with University central offices as appropriate.

The Senior Associate Director, working with the Business School HR team, will demonstrate the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of School stakeholders and ensure everyone meets planning goals. This candidate will become a business partner with School managers and support employee relations within specified departments.

The Senior Associate Director is expected to remain fluent and in compliance with all University policies and procedures. As a member of the HR team, s/he will participate in staff and departmental meetings and report on metrics, with the goal to always improve practices. This position manages one officer of administration.


Manage the day to day generalist operations of the HR office. Provides approvals for TBH’s, PAF’s and oversees TLAM reporting. Works to ensure HR data accuracy and integrity, including employee records. Ensure organizational charts and tracking logs are accurate and up to date. Regularly audit HR data to identify opportunities for innovative improvement to processes, tracking log, and provides recommendations to Senior Director for automation.

Analyze and drafts s and recommends title and grade levels to managers consistent with University offerings. Works with the Senior Director on organizational design for a portfolio of departments, working in partnership with managers and Central HR.

Manage one officer of administration. Proactively works to monitor and review performance, set goals, and trains on best practices. Identifies trainings to support their professional development.

Report on metrics, and analyze data. Calculate retention, turnover and internal mobility rates. Prepare ad-hoc reports and metrics using our HRIS and proprietary in-house tools. Provide weekly report to Senior Director.Manage and maintain the department staff plan.

Manage the voluntary exit interview process for a portfolio of departments.Assist the Senior Director in creating an exit interview strategy for departing staff that will capture University related agenda topics as well as School targeted questions. Analyze feedback from exit interviews, determines trends within the department and works to improve relations and processes. Provides weekly reporting to Senior Director.

Work closely with the Senior Director managing E-Comp and fiscal year end. Assist the Senior Director in gathering benchmark data on compensation. Provides salary information on open positions.

Work closely with the Senior Director managing the annual performance appraisal process. Delivers communications to managers and employees on the process, assist managers with writing reviews. Provides coaching to managers on how to deliver feedback. Ensures a streamline process for receipt of reviews to ensure compliance with CBS policies.

In partnership with the Senior Director, provides guidance, coaching, counseling to managers on issues such as performance management, and employee relations for a portfolio of departments.

Work with the Senior Director on investigatory, disciplinary and grievance procedures for employees. Collaborate with managers to develop improvement plans for staff. Work with the Senior Director on involuntary exits, as necessary.

Conduct staff counseling as it relates to University policies and procedures, benefits and personal matters. Works in partnership with Central HR, University Benefits, as needed.

Provides assistance with CBS orientation as needed. Works on special projects as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 4 years of related experience required.

Demonstrated ability to work in a high volume complex environment that requires confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy and tact is required. Supervisory experience required. Proficiency with MS Office, specifically excel required. Demonstrated problem solving skills needed along with relevant experience highlighting the ability to resolve conflicts. Must have excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills.This individual must have strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment, strict attention to detail and have proven ability to work independently as well as have a positive approach to working within a team across different departments. Must exercise confidentiality and sensitivity relating to salary, budget and personnel information.A confidentiality agreement will be required.Must be able to work evenings as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years’ experience preferred. HR Generalist experience preferred. SHRM certification preferred.
