Under the direction of the Associate Branch Executive Director, the Sr. Director, Fitness & Membership is responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and managing high quality and innovative programming for the Bernon Family Branch of the Hockomock Area YMCA.Responsibilities include oversight of all Health & Wellness, Membership and Child Watch/Youth Enrichment departments, providing direct supervision of the branch’s Membership Director, Fitness and Personal Training Director, Group Exercise Coordinator and Family Program Coordinator. The Sr. Director, Fitness & Membership is responsible for daily operations of the program departments listed above, increasing their participation and enrollment, and retaining current participants through quality programming and an excellent member experience.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Launch new small group and team training programs in collaboration with Fitness and Personal Training Director.Engage in personal training sales, ensure program quality, execute staff development and training, and create a unique client experience. 

Create new health and wellness programs focusing on emerging needs, especially for families and ages 55+, and follow through to see proven results.

In collaboration with the Fitness and Personal Training Director, promote growth with wellness center floor staff.Lead ongoing training, goal setting and coaching.

In collaboration with the Group Exercise Coordinator, ensure program quality is exceptional, and instructors are supported and coached to provide an outstanding experience.

Create a welcoming environment with clients, members and potential members to promote customer service, sales and retention.

Implement membership strategies that support retention and growth of current existing memberships by creating a member focused culture.

Recruit new members by selling memberships.

Energize membership inside the Y by creating unique, memorable experiences that impact members and builds loyalty.Champion the Y by engaging the community at public events and creatively promotes the Y as the preferred choice for those interested in healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.  

Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers at the Member Service Desk in collaboration with Membership Director.Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Hosts regularly scheduled staff meetings for the Membership Department.

Implements membership strategies that support retention and growth of current existing memberships by creating a member focused culture.

Supervise Family Program Coordinator and ensure that branch’s family-type members receive exceptional value through Child Watch and Family programs.

Attends all weekly scheduled branch staff meetings and association-wide trainings and meetings as requested.

Commits to full participation in the Y’s annual fundraising campaign by attending relevant training sessions, building a team of fundraising volunteers inviting people to the Y ‘s campaign events, and ultimately achieving department’s fundraising goals for the campaign.

Demonstrates support for the Bernon Family Branch’s special membership events by participating and aiding in the delivery of those events as requested.

Provides accurate and up-to-date facility schedules and reserves space in the building for programs. 

Develops systems for effective communication between the Member Service Staff, program staff, administrative staff and members.

Maintains facility and equipment appearance in a neat, clean and organized manner.Report concerns to supervisor

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field

3-5 years of fitness experience (personal training, group exercise, senior fitness, youth programs)

3-5 years of experience in sales and/or customer service

3-5 years of proven experience in staff/volunteer supervision

Budget management experience

A demonstrated commitment to member service, with a willingness to consistently exceed expectations

A track record of program development with proven success

Excellent communication skills

Excellent organization skills

A nationally recognized personal training certification (ACE, NSCA-PT, ACSM or equivalent) preferred, or willingness to achieve personal trainer certification.

Project management skills

CPR, First Aid and AED certifications, as well as Stewards of Children child protection certification, required within 60 days of employment
