The Senior Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of NEPM’s fundraising including, the major gifts program, Leadership Circle program, membership, annual fund, planned giving, and capital campaign(s). The Senior Director will work collaboratively with all Senior Directors. and the NEPM Board of Directors.  This individual will also be responsible for maintaining a working environment that leverages the potential and diversity of the department’s entire staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Develop and maintain relationships with major donors, Leadership Circle members and planned giving prospects.This includes cultivation events, mailings and phone calls, personal visits and solicitations

Develop and implement move management campaign strategies that acquire, renew and upgrade general membership to Leadership and Leadership Donors to Major Donors, and growth within Murrow Society - the Major Donor group

Oversee the Leadership Circle program, pertaining to but not limited to monthly mailings and communications

Responsible for major donor communication strategies, including mail copy, newsletters, email communications and on-air support materials

Develop and/or update existing processes and compliance guidelines that govern development work as needed

Work with the Development Committee, and other committees as needed, to establish strategies to identify potential growth areas

Work with CDP to develop Membership Solicitation Strategies and to ensure that the communications are reflective of the local culture

Work collaboratively to ensure the success of on-air fundraising campaigns

Makes public appearances/accepts speaking engagements to share information about NEPM with the community, including evenings and weekends

In collaboration with the Marketing Department, oversees the creation of publications that supports fundraising activities

Supervise and monitor Grants and Foundations program - research, proposal writing and reporting requirements

Establish and maintain revenue and expense budget reports

Create and maintain a 12-month on-air presence for the Murrow Society (Major Giving), and planned giving activities

Fulfill benefits for all Major Donors, Leadership Circle donors, and other levels of giving

Collaborate with the Marketing, Communications & Events Department on coordinating special fundraising events

Communicate and behave in a way that is free from discrimination, intolerance or harassment when interacting with coworkers, colleagues and clients

Participate in station Membership Drives, Special Events and other community events and/or activities, including evenings and weekends


SKILL SET


Demonstrated successful track record in fundraising, preferably within a public media setting and demonstrated success in acquiring major gifts.

Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated experience motivating professional staff and donors.

Ability to work as a team member within a multifaceted organization requiring collaboration, teamwork, and communication.

Willingness to travel regionally and nationally, including some overnights and weekends.

Demonstrated ability to lead a program including goal setting, evaluation, and planning.

Must be able to clearly communicate with executives, Board of Directors, managers, staff, and donors of all levels.

Strong cultivation, written and oral communication skills required.

Experience in public speaking.

Familiarity with Fundraising Databases.

Excellent computer skills, specifically in Word and Excel.

Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

Willingness to comply with all donor and station related ethics, integrity, and editorial policies.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Bachelor's degree and related experience equating to an advanced degree or specialized fundraising training. Must have at least 6 – 8 years of leadership experience. Must have at least 8 – 10 years of fundraising experience.
