Position Overview:


Reporting to the Vice President, Project & Portfolio Management, the Senior Director will own the R&D Portfolio Analysis and Review Process. He or she will partner with cross-organizational teams to define the Portfolio Analysis and Review as well as develop and deliver tools, analytics, insights and reports for both R&D and the wider Gilead leadership. The leader is the key presenter of the outputs, including key insights and recommendations, to both R&D leadership as well as the broader Gilead leadership team. These deliverables will support achievement of corporate goals, planning, decision‐making by project teams and governance committees and to increase R&D productivity.


The selected leader will apply their analytical skills, high level of proficiency in analytical and data visualization tools, strategic thinking, and ability to communicate complex ideas to Gilead leadership in a simple way.This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between business opportunities and technology solutions with the development of new portfolio tools, insights and reporting while working with a senior team within the organization to gather input and share results.


Key Responsibilities:


Work with a senior cross-functional team and with leadership to define and drive the portfolio review process

Make and support recommendations that consider trade-offs to create an integrated portfolio that aligns with strategic objectives and supports business decisions

Leverage strategic and analytical expertise to implement new portfolio management tools and capabilities

Build and maintain dataset or models for analysis of portfolio, ensuring data quality

Build and implement risk assessment tools and trainings to evaluate the probability of success of program advancement.Ensure industry benchmarks are appropriately applied to identify valuable portfolio opportunities and effectively manage portfolio risk

Provide insights and drive near and long-term portfolio review and planning in alignment with financial budgeting and goal setting

Ensure all reporting and analysis adheres to high quality and consistency standards.

Support business case development by working with corporate strategy/business development

Manage and mentor a small team of analysts

 

Minimum Qualifications:


At least 15+ years of relevant experience and a BA or a BS in Sciences, Business, Finance, Market Research, Decision Sciences, or similar and relevant subject or an MS and 12+years of relevant experience or a PhD and 7+ years of relevant experience

MBA a plus

Working knowledge of the pharmaceutical/biotech landscape, R&D trends, business strategy and markets in major disease areas

Significant experience in analytical role in a pharma/biotech or consulting

Proven ability to lead a matrixed cross functional team consisting of representatives from R&D and G&A

Proven ability to work through complex problems and use analytical ability to interpret and communicate them effectively

Advanced skills in portfolio management applications preferably Enrich, Excel, and PowerPoint

Strong organizational and communication skills including experience presenting to an executive audience

Must be able to work independently and under minimal supervision
