With the hyper-growth of the organization, the Total Reward function has a need to provide enhanced delivery of its creative Reward solutions across the various countries that make up their EMEA region, in a strategic way.Key to this is supporting the Country and Regional Business Executives and HR Leaders across the organization with a high-touch, pro-active service offering. This high-profile role will be advising a range of stakeholders on initiatives that will help the company to achieve its growth targets, primarily through the attraction, engagement and retention of talent. In this role, you will be responsible for 2 direct reports , juggling the needs for operational delivery and program management, with the need for improving on frameworks to enable on-going sustainable growth for the company. Reporting into the Executive Director of Total Reward based in the HQ in San Francisco and partnering with a peer level Global Benefits specialist, you will be a key member of the global Reward team and as such will be providing advisory support on EMEA related trends, compliance requirements and risk assessments pertaining to Reward strategy.You will also be a key contributor to global Reward projects as required, ensuring a “best in class” service delivery whilst demonstrating on-going ROI.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success in a complex matrix, global organization as a Total Reward or specialist Compensation Leader; with direct ownership of strategy development and operational delivery; and evidence of solving complex problems through the successful implementation of key initiatives.

Specific Job Requirements

The role will require, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

Subject matter expert and consulting advisor on Total Reward matters spanning EMEA countries

Responsible for regional governance of Gilead Compensation and Job Evaluation processes, ensuring development of best practices and continuous improvement

Proactive assessment and interventions for upcoming legislations and Brexit implications

Ensuring local market philosophies and regional programs are consistent for global guidelines

Strategic consulting on Reward issues and trends with an array of stakeholders inclusive of General Managers, Vice Presidents, and HR leaders within EMEA

Advisor to Commercial teams for sales incentives formulation and effectivenessAdvisor to HR teams for impacts of Reward programs on Union and Works Council negotiations

Active contributor to Global Reward team projects, and “go to” partner for team members based around the world

Oversight of stock and options plans to enable advisory support and guidance for calibration and evaluation and ratings

Implementation, formalization, management of retention systems (eg: retention bonuses, stability pacts, non-compete pacts...) 

Management of labour costs

Headcount management

Ownership of data provision eg: data credibility for continuous demonstration of market competitiveness for talent

Education and influence of leaders on parity, equity, and utilising Reward to drive the right performance and behaviours

Management of limited team resources to achieve exceptional Reward service delivery

Thoughtfulness for planning of initiatives, and exceptional presentation skills to achieve stakeholder credibility and buy-in

Advisory support to M&A teams for due diligence risks, integration and harmonisation of new staff and Reward plans

Proactive development of compensation plans suitable to attract, engage and retain talent in new work streams currently not existing within the Gilead company

Management of reporting and progress to key stakeholders

Thought leader for workforce trends inclusive of “future of work” developments, and impacts on Total Reward strategy

Essential Requirements

Relevant Bachelor’s Degree

Relevant experience of strategic design for compensation plans

Extensive experience of working as a dedicated compensation plan specialist across multiple countries within the EMEA market

Advanced understanding of the compensation nuances applicable to the full range of biopharmaceutical workforces

Advanced understanding of the structures and principles for sales incentivisation programs

Experience of developing and managing high-performing teams

Track record of successful project management across complex, matrix organisations

Credible advisor; demonstrated expertise across key initiatives pertaining to Total Reward

Experience of driving change programs across multiple geographies and functions

Excellent knowledge of MS Office (particularly Excel) and HRIS systems

EU citizenship with the ability to work daily from ideally the Stockley Park campus

Ability to travel as required (and on a planned basis) across the EMEA region, and occasionally into Foster City and other international hubs

Fluent written & verbal English
