The Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer is the primary organizational partner for the overall leadership and coordination of all Human Resources functions. This individual must advocate for and model Y-USA core values, understand the organization’s strategic plans and guide the HR team to support the achievement of our goals. Acts as lead in proactive staff relations ensuring the organization and its staff take the best steps in resolution of people issues. This position provides vision, strategy, and human resources expertise for staff workforce issues at YMCA of the USA through direct operational responsibility for the Human Resource and Organizational Development department as well as general strategic leadership organization-wide.
Bachelor’s degree in management, human resources, psychology or other relevant field required; master’s degree preferred
Certified as a Y Organizational Leader preferred
Attainment of SPHR certification preferred
Minimum 15 years of proven human resource experience, with preferred emphasis in employee relations
Minimum 5 plus years of executive level leadership experience
Demonstrated ability to direct resources toward the accomplishment of strategic objectives beyond the core human resource functions
Proven ability to investigate and respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
Knowledge of best practices in the human resources field of work
8 - 10 years’ service within a not-for –profit organization preferred
Superior ethics and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making in a complex organization
Experience interfacing with C-Suite leaders, CEOs and Compensation Committees
Excellent communications and analytical skills required
Leadership ability in organizational structure and organizational development

Provide leadership to the senior management team in developing and implementing a strategic direction and vision for Y-USA staff based on HR best practices in an increasingly diverse workforce resulting in motivated, engaged, and high-performing staff supportive of the mission of the YMCA movement
Provide strategic guidance to senior management on human resource issues, organizational restructuring, career development programs, succession planning and other issues affecting staff and supervisors
Guide diversity recruiting practices to attain and retain a workforce reflective of the communities we serve
Serve as a committee member for D& I Leadership Council and Brand Council
Lead human resources team in accurate recordkeeping practices according to employment laws and regulations as well as to support the needs of the General Counsel’s office in matters relating to employees
Create and promote programs that build a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment, such as the Recognition Committee
Investigate as necessary employee complaints and allegations.
Serve as employee relations leader with a commitment to guide the organization’s people decisions to avoid unnecessary adverse risk and lawsuits
Collaborate with Y-Benefits on benefit plans
Direct the professional development and college tuition reimbursement funds to serve as a learning tools as well as in the pursuit of our leadership certification programs
Foster and manage state-of-the-art human resource initiatives and programs that align staff resources and policies with the strategic direction of Y-USA
Serve as a partner in the EthicsPoint investigations and reviews
Upgrade and maintain the human resource management system and implement infrastructure initiatives designed to transform job structures, compensation programs, performance management, and career development
Attend and participate in trainings that provide up to date knowledge of employment law
Create and add rewards and recognition programs to engage, retain and provide enjoyment to Y-USA staff
Connect with local human resources organizations to insure YUSA is known to those who in the community as an employer of choice
Continue learning process to retain organizational leader status and human resources certification
Plan and guide the implementation of our annual All Staff Meeting
Serve as Chief Human Resources Officer for Y-USA, resource/advisor to the National Board of Directors, and staff liaison to the Executive Compensation Committee of the National Board
