BAE Systems has a stimulating opportunity for an energetic well-qualified Reliability, Maintainability, and Product Safety (RMS) Engineer to join our team. This engineer will work on teams developing and producing electro-optical, communication, precision guidance systems, and Electronic Counter Measures for ground, airborne and shipboard platforms. BAE Systems RMS Engineers are involved with every stage of the equipment lifecycle from concept through development, Integration & Test, production and field support. The selected candidate will have significant interaction across the company including program office, all engineering disciplines and production functions and this will provide for a fast-paced, educational, and fulfilling experience. Our Senior Principal II Reliability, Maintainability & Safety (RMS) Engineer performs the following:
Possess demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in facets of Reliability, Maintainability & Safety including, but not limited to the following; Reliability/Maintainability/Availability/Testability analysis including, predictions, system modeling & simulations and trades, FMECA, Root Cause Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Reliability Growth. Demonstrate proficiency and subject matter expertise in one or more discipline areas.-?xml:namespace prefix = "o" /->
Performs professional technical analysis requiring the full use and wide application of Engineering principles, theories, concepts and precedents in one or more of the Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety (RMS) disciplines, plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines such as Logistics and Testability. Conducts research to devise new techniques and approaches and provides solutions to a wide range of technical problems and proposals. Ability to make independent technical decisions.
Coordinates and directs the Reliability/Maintainability/Safety task efforts of lower level engineers and support personnel, as assigned. Responsible for tracking labor and/or material expenditures for use in program control. Has capability of directing and/overseeing multiple concurrent projects. Capability to lead Reliability Science teams as required and act as the program point person for Reliability Sciences.
Provides reliability growth planning guidance to programs as required during life cycle phases. Plans and directs test activities; oversees trend analysis and problem identification, and Root Cause analysis. Prepares/reviews failure reports for publication. Ensures that test failure/defect information, as required, is captured with company standard tools and processes for failure data management & reporting. Responsible for "lessons learned" abstraction and capture.
Prepares proposals in accordance with company practices, using Functional Bid Metrics or other approved data sources, including time phased resources, and capture of Risks and Opportunities for management and/or mitigation. Works with Systems Engineering to ensure full comprehension and inclusion of RMS requirements contributing to higher level performance measures. Demonstrates the ability to take the lead role for Reliability Engineering on proposal efforts of varying scope size and propels task requirements (i.e. technical volume, cost volume, management volume, initial program plans, IMS, compliance and reliability analysis).
Performs safety assessments on system hardware and software along with test equipment. Prepares and presents safety cases and data items that document the safety issues and the steps required to mitigate the issues to internal management as well as our customers.
Provides RMS technical leadership with assigned business area(s).
Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience or equivalent experience
Required Skills and Education
US Citizenship required
Support production by performing Failure reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System activities including:
Collecting metrics and producing Trend Analysis (Pareto, First Time Yield, etc.)
Root Cause and Corrective Action (9-Step or equivalent)
Presenting findings to internal management and external customers
Dispositioning material and equipment
Perform Reliability and Maintainability Analysis including:
Reliability Predictions and modeling
Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis
Perform Reliability Testing
Plan Environmental Stress Screening
Perform Safety Assessments
Represent the Reliability Sciences organization by presenting to live audiences of either internal management, external customers or both, Cost Account Management, and leading a group of other reliability sciences engineers
Preferred Skills and Education
Strong design reliability sciences experience, i.e. Reliability Predictions, Reliability Modelling, Design FMEA, FMECA, ESS, Reliability Test, Reliability Growth techniques, Stress Analysis, etc.
Strong production support Reliability Sciences experience, i.e. FRACAS, Data collection, Root Cause Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, etc.
Electronic Warfare Systems background preferred, but not required
Familiarity with Design For Reliability concepts and techniques a plus
Familiarity with supporting Reliability and Maintainability testing activities to include maintainability demonstrations, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Accelerated Life/Stress Test, Reliability Growth Testing (RGT), and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS)
Familiar with System Safety analysis tools, techniques and Fault Tree Analysis
Leadership experience preferred, i.e. interface with internal and external customers, presentation skills, leading groups of reliability sciences engineers, representing the reliability sciences organization, Cost Account Management, etc.
