Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a highly qualified, mission oriented, Sr. Principal Thermal Engineer, located in Redondo Beach.
The candidate must possess an advanced understanding of the principles of radiation and conduction heat transfer in conjunction with environmental heating effects and parameters associated with spaceflight applications.
CandidateResponsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:
Perform design and development of thermal control systems for aircraft and space based platforms and missions.
The candidate will perform thermal analysis to develop and optimize thermal control designs and provide solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
The candidate is expected to work independently and without appreciable direction.
Thermal systems requirements development & analysis
Applies technical expertise to the planning, design, development and testing of thermal systems, as well as perform associated analyses.
Identify and initiate corrective action of problems, discrepancies and deficiencies to ensure requirements (technical, schedule, & cost) are met and product quality is not compromised.
Strong leadership skills, ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to interface with project management/IPT, RDE, SPM, customer as well as other engineering disciplines.
Working closely with other subject matter experts (SME), other senior engineers, and other disciplines.
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited institution with 9 years of engineering experience; OR Masters degree in STEM from an accredited university with 7 years of engineering experience; OR PhD in STEM from an accredited university with 4 years of engineering experience
Ability to obtain SCI, DoD Secret and/or Top Secret Clearance with SSBI
Design, analysis and integration experience of spacecraft thermal systems
Experience using thermal analysis tools (SINDA/G, SINDA/FLUENT, TSS, Thermal Desktop)
Experience using aerospace standard design tools (NX, CATIA)
MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 10 years of engineering experience
Experience with space vehicle thermal design and/or integration
Detail-oriented and have excellent verbal and written communications skills, leadership skills, and organization skills
Spacecraft and/or Payload background with experience through the entire system lifecycle from concept, design, production, integration, test, launch, to operation support.
Experience working on thermal design and troubleshooting efforts.
An active in-scope SCI, DoD Secret and/or Top Secret Clearance with SSBI
