Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
10 years of professional experience in software engineering with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation and leading successful engineering teams.
2 years of experience working in the government space.
Ability to travel as required.
Experience co-creating Cloud roadmaps with customers and/or vendors at the CIO, CTO, SVP of Engineering level.
Experience applying technology to solve business problems, especially in the analytics/distributed computing space.
Knowledge of government specific issues, such as procurement and regulatory requirements, among others.
Knowledge of government compliance frameworks, such as FedRAMP and others.
Ability to work independently on behalf of customers with minimal guidance, rallying others within their own organization.
Ability to be a team oriented leader who has leveraged organizational depth across functions for the benefit of transformation projects with clients and/or their own company.
About the job
As a Technical Director within the CTO Office (OCTO), you will establish deep relationships with technical executives from the largest worldwide commercial and government organizations, both at a national and a state/local level. You will provide leadership advice which includes people, process and technical recommendations to technical and non-technical leaders in government organizations. Overall, you will represent the technical voice of Google Cloud in the commercial and public sector markets. Success is achieved when government executives list you as the most important relationship they have with Google.
Your days may include whiteboarding sessions with a CIO/CTO, evangelism for emerging technology as a keynote presenter, deep dives with internal engineering teams on the key use cases for a launch, and/or leading a cross-Google technical team through a critical engagement with a CIO. You will be at home on stage, in the meeting room, or in private consultation as a trusted adviser, and possess stellar communication skills, patience and a commitment to follow through that inspires confidence.
You are a recognized expert in cloud computing, analytics and/or machine learning, with significant enterprise experience in one or more industries (e.g. Public Sector, Healthcare, Retail, Financial Services, Tech, Manufacturing). You’ve been a CTO, SVP of Engineering or equivalent technical leader that has delivered significant business outcomes through cloud related innovation.
You probably started as a software and/or infrastructure engineer and, although you've become a people manager and/or independent advisor, you seek to stay close to technology while maintaining/increasing your level of customer interaction. You love solving technical edge cases that enable people and organizations to achieve significant breakthroughs, staying current on cloud computing technology such as compute, storage, network, analytics, machine learning, mobile, containers, application dev/test/deployment, security. You thrive in executing through influence and have a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get work done.
Your knowledge of Google's infrastructure and Cloud Platform should surpass our customers'. You are also constantly researching non-GCP and non-Google cloud related products/platforms/solutions.
Partner closely with two to three large public sector customers as their most trusted Google technical advisor, helping them to create a digital strategy..
Identify cloud related design/development/deployment friction points from the customers’ perspective and rally teams to work through deployment hurdles, product updates, new product offerings, solutions. Work with customers and internal and external partners to define joint initiatives and co-create their transformation roadmap.
Tell the Google innovation story and help translate it into actionable steps that government entities can take towards adoption, considering statutory and regulatory implications in government.
Collaborate across functional and product area boundaries to bring the best of Google to the customer.
Know your own limitations, and be willing to ask for help from the broader OCTO team and Google Engineering/PM teams on behalf of the customer.
