We are seeking a Transactional Practice Manager to join our Professional Resources team in New York. The Transactional Practice Manager will work collaboratively to further the Firm’s strategic objectives of training, developing and retaining highly accomplished and dedicated attorneys. Specifically, the Practice Manager will assist in the day-to-day administration and management of the Tax Department (Tax), Real Estate Department (Real Estate), Private Client Services Department (PCS) and Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice (EBEC) across all offices in the U.S. with respect to talent management, internal communications and integration of resources. The Transactional Practice Manager will work directly with the Department Chairs for Tax, Real Estate and PCS, Practice Co-Chairs for EBEC and Legal Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Productivity and Resource Allocation:

  • Support groups with resource allocation and productivity management 

  • Interface with other attorneys in the Firm to address staffing needs for attorneys in Tax, Real Estate, PCS and EBEC on an as-needed basis

  • Synthesize, analyze and present productivity data to Department and Practice Chairs 


  • Work with partners to develop and run Department meetings and training programs

  • Assist with developing benchmarks and skills checklists for associates at different levels and monitor associate progress 

  • Assess legal technologies and assist with training and adoption of such technologies


  • Manage associate evaluation process 

  • Assist with ad hoc or interim reviews

  • Assist in addressing performance issues

Mentoring and Morale:

  • Develop professional relationships with associates, including an in-depth understanding of professional aspirations, experiences, strengths, development needs and relevant personal circumstances in order to serve as a resource for questions regarding individual professional development

  • Coordinate with mentors/mentees and associate advisors on relationship development

  • Regularly meet with associates to monitor morale and address any concerns

  • Coordinate mentoring and morale activities and events


  • Participate in Department budget planning and management

  • Advise attorneys on use of individual budgets

Attorney Onboarding and Offboarding:

  • Collaborate with Department and Practice Chairs/Legal Director and the Recruiting team to plan for future workforce needs 

  • Assist with hiring processes, including:

  • Identification and recruitment of summer associates interested in the Departments and EBEC

  • identification of lateral associate needs, interviewing of lateral candidates and preparation of needs memos and offer letters

  • Coordinate orientation of new associates and laterals 

  • Assist with departing attorney processes, including matter transitioning and matter mobility

Attorney Management:

  • Manage secondments, office transfers, leaves of absences and alternative work schedules in conjunction with HR, Benefits, Finance and other necessary parties

  • Coordinate with Recruiting, HR and Labor regarding taxes, visas and other employment issues

  • Oversee compliance with the Firm’s time entry policies 

Knowledge Management & Projects:

  • Assist in the coordination of the maintenance of portals, resource lists and other KM tools, as needed, including training materials and forms

  • Collaborate with the Innovation team to deliver client solutions and explore legal technologies that support the efficient management of the practices 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Support Firm Diversity & Inclusion and Women’s initiatives 

  • Work with attorneys to achieve the Firm’s pro bono goals and commitments

  • Stay apprised of developments in other practice groups, departments and across the firm 

  • General assistance on ad-hoc projects, as needed


  • Juris Doctor degree required; 3+ years of experience at a top law firm

  • General understanding of transactional practices, and an interest in, or experience with, practice management  

  • Strong leadership and management skills

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated and organized

  • Multi-task and effectively prioritize competing demands on time and attention

  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours as needed
