The Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports to the President/C.E.O., and according to established policies and procedures, provides leadership for and administrative, management, marketing, fiscal, clinical and staffing functions of medical services with line responsibility for the following:


qMedical Staff Affairs


qPhysician Services/Medical Staff Credentialing


qPerformance Improvement/Care Coordination/JOINT COMMISSION


qHospitalist In-Patient Program


qInfection Control


qEmergency Room Physician Services


qHospital Based Physician Services


qBest Practice Protocols

The CMO will serve as a member of the leadership team for the system as an ex-officio (non-voting) member of all Medical Staff committees; attends all meetings of the Board of Trustees, Medical Executive Committees, and Medical Staff departments. He/She will ensure compliance with established corporate objectives and the provision of quality, economical services. Performs other work of the department and is responsible for assigned sections on a 24 hour basis.


The CMO works through established Medical Staff and administrative organizations, following established lines of authority and responsibility with the primary responsibility of ensuring and promoting high quality medical care.Maintains a close working relationship with the Chief of Staff and Medical Executive Committee and the CEO.Responsible for effective discharge of the Medical Staff organization functions as set forth in Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Medical Staff policies.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Graduation from an accredited medical school; MD or DO Degree is required as is Board Certification in a clinical discipline.A minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice is required, with a reputation as an excellent clinician.Clinical credibility is a must.Experience as a VPMA, CMO, Clinical Chair, Medical Director or the equivalent is desired.Physician leadership experience is required, with a track record of success in implementing operational, administrative, and medical management principles; experience establishing a CMO/VPMA function is preferred.Eligibility for licensure to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina. Additional education and coursework in management and business is preferred.Completion of all or part of the Physician in Management series would satisfy this preference as would an advanced management degree (MBA, MHA, MPh, MMM, etc.)
