Sun Health Foundation is the fund raising arm that develops community support for the Banner Del E. Webb and the Banner Boswell Medical Centers and the Banner Sun Health Research Institute. These institutions were acquired by Banner from Sun Health five ago. Due to the long-standing relationship with the community, the Sun Health Foundation continues in its philanthropic role. While Sun Health employees are leased through Banner Health, they report to the Sun Health Administration and Board.

Job Summary

This position reports to the Foundation and has the day-to-day responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing, directing, budgeting, controlling and monitoring all fund development activities of Sun Health Foundation with the purpose of attracting and maintaining financial support for the non-profit healthcare services. Directs and supervises all office procedures and personnel of the Foundation and advises and confers with the of Sun Health Services/Foundation regarding fund development and other Foundation activities to develop a strong and concerted public image of the need for continuing financial support from the community.

Essential Functions

+ In tandem with the Foundation , strategically creates, plans, develops and implements aggressive fundraising policies, procedures and programs to support Sun Health Foundations mission to encourage charitable giving for the enhancement of nonprofit healthcare. Builds and maintains donor trust as well as community and stakeholder relationships that support the achievement of short-term and long-term fundraising goals.

+ Researches, identifies and garners individual, corporate and foundation resources for philanthropic support including outright contributions, planned gifts, events, grants and enterprise revenue.

+ Maintains efficient and effective functioning of Sun Health Foundation by mentoring and managing the activities of all staff positions and by maintaining and assuring implementation of policies and procedures to assure compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulatory requirements and donor instructions.

+ Responsible for developing annual operating and capital budgets and presentations of financial reports measured against goals.

+ Serves as a member of the Sun Health Services senior leadership team to develop and implement fundraising strategies best suited for specific projects, goals or initiatives and advises all levels of management in the areas of community and fundraising relations.

+ Ensures initial and continuing competency of staff under their respective responsibility. Initiates recruitment, selection, and provides for training, development, coaching and motivation of employees. Maintains and encourages a positive working environment through a variety of communication systems, positive recognition, intervention and practices resignation recovery.

+ Maintains relationships with attorneys, accountants, trust officers, stock brokers and investment counselors to gain their support of Sun Health Foundation. Promotes general fund-raising efforts such as speaking to and attending functions of a variety of professional and business groups.

+ Oversees the development, promotion and implementation of special events, service line promotions, facility openings and tours, direct mail efforts, grant writing, sponsorships and enterprise activities particularly as it relates to prospects and donors. Works with the Sun Health Foundation Board of Trustees through the committee structure to assure appropriate governance, donor relations and stewardship consistent with Sun Health Foundation mission and strategic plan.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelors degree in business or related field and/or extensive training in fundraising, marketing and public relations.

A minimum of ten of progressively responsible administrative leadership experience in a healthcare related setting. Must have the ability to develop strong relationships with donors, media, suppliers, customers and community as well as effectively communicate with employees, physicians, scientists and healthcare/ hospital administrative and management staff. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and demonstrate leadership ability and group facilitation skills. Analytical and critical thinking skills are required to integrate and interpret data from diverse sources. Must also be able to integrate information to establish business-based priorities, decisions and budgets. Knowledge of legal and tax consequences related to charitable giving is also required.
