The Life Product Development Vice President will join the Des Moines based Life Product Development team in a leadership role for life product development and pricing.The individual will work with a broad, multi-disciplined team to develop new and innovative product solutions to meet the opportunities and challenges of today’s life insurance marketplace.In addition to executing on product pricing, this position requires significant interaction with multiple areas of the company including investments, risk, sales, marketing, financial reporting, operations and compliance as well as vendors supporting our administration and illustration systems.This Des Moines based role requires an actuary that possesses not only strong analytical skills, but also a creative drive and excellent communication skills. The key responsibilities will include:

Leading the development of new, innovative life insurance products that meet profitability, risk management and competitive objectives

Managing a team of actuarial personnel

Performing thorough and timely pricing and risk analysis, including both statutory and GAAP profitability measures

Leading the preparation of product specification and pricing documentation as well as the development of actuarial materials for forms filing initiatives

Life product leadership on teams executing new product development projects

Participating in market review meetings to facilitate profitable sales growth

Establishing mortality reinsurance coverage for new life insurance business

Utilizing critical and creative thinking to develop modeling, design, illustrative and administrative solutions for new, innovative product ideas

Working independently on Ad Hoc requests reporting results in a timely and professional manner


Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Actuarial Science or related field and ten (10) years of experience in the life insurance industry is preferred, life pricing experience a plus

Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries designation is required

Knowledge of individual life products required

Previous use of actuarial software required; Knowledge of MG ALFA is preferred

Possess strong analytical skills to price products with the ability to draw conclusions from research

Possess strong communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships
