The VP of Accounting will lead AGTC’s accounting operations and financial reporting activities and maintain a thorough system of accounting records, policies and controls designed to mitigate risk, and ensure the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results, including the timely filing of SEC reports.The position will report to the CFO and interact with key members of management throughout the Company, external auditors, and audit committee.
This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Accounting personnel will report directly to the VP of Accounting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Applies a thorough understanding of the Company’s business to all aspects of the Accounting Function.
Oversees the external SEC and other financial reporting for the Company, assuring compliance with all regulations.Keeps senior management abreast of pending changes in regulations that could have financial or operational impact on the Company.
Oversees the Company’s program of internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure conformance and compliance with US GAAP and other statutory requirements including Sarbanes-Oxley.
Manages all aspects of tax compliance including coordination of outside tax provider activities.
Partners with the Company’s FP&A and Legal functions to create financial reports to management by collecting, analyzing and summarizing results. Assists in the preparation of financial projections, forecasts, and budgets.
Leads by engaging, motivating, and managing a high-performance team.Provides coaching, counseling, and feedback on performance. Ensures adequate and appropriate resources to perform work throughout the functional areas of responsibility.
Leads the refinement of existing and the expansion new accounting systems and processes.
Leads period closes to ensure timely and accurate financial information is distributed to key stakeholders in order to facilitate decision making.
Completes other accounting/financial projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, MBA preferred.
At least 10 years of accounting management experience in a publicly traded company. At least three (3) of those years formally managing personnel.
A proven manager who has hired, trained, motivated, facilitated, and led an organization in a manner that has impacted results, culture, and strategic direction.
Strong understanding of US GAAP, SEC reporting and technical accounting.
Biotechnology experience, including partnership accounting is a plus.
Detailed knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, including Section 404, and an ability to drive the Company’s compliance with all relevant accounting and certification requirements.
Demonstrated ability to apply “best practice” business process improvement and financial controls.
Strong strategic and analytical skills with the ability to support a growing business.
Strong financial systems experience and the ability to continuously assess and ensure systems meet business needs.
Excellent work ethic and integrity.
