Accounting Principals is currently seeking a Vice President of Finance to join and lead a leading international multi-disciplinary engineering, science, and technology consultancy offering a broad range of services in the defense, energy, environment, shipping, ports, and logistics sectors. Our client is looking for someone with full-cycle accounting experience in Government Contracting, who has hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint 711 (GL, Projects, T&E, AR, AP) and ADP payroll, DoD federal contracting DCAA & CFAR experience and monthly and year-end close experience. The incumbent must have GL reconciliation and month end journal entry experience and experience reviewing payroll/AP/AR. Cash flow, P&L and Revenue Recognition experience as well as incurred cost submission and provisional rates is helpful. Must be US Citizen.

This position is on-site in Arlington, VA, with free parking available.

Salary ranges from $160k-$185k

The Vice President of Finance is a key member of the company’s strategic and day-to-day leadership; specifically, overseeing all financial aspects of company strategy and performance. The role holder reports to the President of the US operating company and is responsible for financial and cash management and advising the company Senior Management Team. He/She is also the key point of contact with the Corporate finance department on all company financial matters.

As a member of the US Board of Directors and senior management team, he/she exemplifies the values and behaviors required of a senior leader within a growing business.He/she specializes in finance and accounting but will be required to establish effective working relationships with executive colleagues; taking collective responsibility for the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, banking relationships and financial reporting for the company, for business lines within the business and for projects within each business line. He/She leads and the support of audits in compliance with DCSA, federal, state, DCAA and Group finance department requirements.

The Vice President of Finance contributes to Senior Management Team and board meetings on the full range of business issues, notably on the formulation of the company’s financial business strategy, taking responsibility for forecasting and costing strategic options and initiatives. He/she also takes responsibility alongside colleagues for initiating, implementing, and reviewing business plans.

Planning, Strategy and Governance

Accountable to the line manager

Supports and interfaces with Vice Presidents of Contracts, Operations, Business Development and Human Resources to ensure overall collective formulation of strategy and discharge of responsibilities

Provides interface to the Corporate Finance Director for professional standards and financial reporting

Upholds and complies with corporate and company operating policies and procedures

Promotes the company’s positive, professional ethos including its people’s health, safety and morale including global HR policies and Health, Safety and Wellbeing initiatives

Promotes the global vision, mission and values; being an active member of the BMT group finance community.

Provides effective line management to the finance and accounting group

Provides effective line management to the Information Technology (IT) Manager

Comfortable managing the VP finance role in a growth company of 170 people with current revenues of $30m

Expressed ambition to grow in the role to assume duties of regional financial controller – leading and support finance functions of 2 additional operating companies in US and Canada

Responsibilities and Tasks

Owns the relationship with the Corporate finance function and the Group Finance Director

Develops and implements the financial strategy with the Management Board

Manages the company’s banking relationships

Manages the company’s accounting function

Analyzes financial performance, financial plans and provides proactive advice and accurate forecasting to the board, managing director and senior management

Formulates financial targets and budgets in accordance with the strategy

Manages all financial transactions and accountancy matters, including audit processes

Manages corporate finance and capital requirements, working with the Group finance director on debt, taxation, equity and treasury, including multiple currency transactions

Provides key support on structuring joint ventures, mergers or acquisitions as may be required

Oversees the preparation of annual accounts, ensuring successful audit thereof

Ensures the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met in all the company’s financial matters

Lead the finance and accounting team; and provides line management to the finance and accounting team (of about 5 accounts, clerks, and project controllers)

Owns the ‘provide management information’ key business process including the company management information system, driving continuous improvement

Owns project finance reporting and review function working with other Vice Presidents, business unit leads and group managers to develop, implement and maintain effective and usable project cost monitoring and control systems and processes


15 years’ experience in finance, accounting, and project management, with at least five years as a member of a senior management team

10 years’ experience leading US government contracting and consulting services finance and accounting function within a business

Experience executing revenue recognition related to US government DoD contracts

Experience leading on the financial aspects of establishing joint ventures and analyzing and executing mergers and acquisitions

Experience in the use of Deltek Costpoint required; familiarity with data warehouse structures used in consolidation of corporate financial reports desired

Strong personnel leadership skills; experience of managing and developing professional staff

Excellent inter-personal and communication skills

Able to quickly win influence, energize, lead, and motivate others and to build successful teams to get work done

Demonstrated experience leading the implementation of new financial and account system, management information system or enterprise resource planning system

Excellent reasoning and problem-solving skills

Ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with all staff members

Able to explain complex financial issues to non-financial professionals

Strong team leadership and team membership skills

Experience of working with project managers to maximize revenue and profit
