The VP of User Experience & Design, (“VPD”) will be responsible for leading and supporting the NCM Digital team in all aspects of design and production focused on UI design and UX best practices. The VPD will source and manage in-house and freelance creative resources to develop innovative and appealing designs, clear interaction guidelines, and an information architecture structure. The VPD will also be involved in helping to drive, define and conduct user research focused on driving forward our Digital’s vision and goals.
The role will involve significant collaboration with multiple internal stakeholders. The VPD will be expected to advocate for and maintain UX and design standards within our Digital and other parts of the company. The ideal candidate is a strong but malleable leader who can solve problems creatively and effectively, recommend and leverage quantitative and qualitative consumer insight tools, and manage the design process from ideation to competition. This role involves hands on active participation in all facets of the design process. Particularly at first, the role will be focused on execution of design and UX tasks and functions. The role will be responsible for growing the design capabilities of the organization through both additional internal hiring and through use of external design resources as needs and budgets dictate.
Our Digital business needs to grow by focusing on creating a differentiated, fun and engaging consumer platform that attracts and retains movie fans who are enthusiastic about sharing their experience with others. All products developed need to be thought of as part of an ecosystem that extends to and integrates with multiple screens in harmony, with special emphasis on enabling experiences seamlessly between web/mobile, OTT and brick-and-mortar movie theaters. The Noovie Digital Portfolio of apps and sites are diverse and at times disjointed today. The VPD will be responsible for creating the user experience elements that bind the components together sufficiently to induce a sense of familiarity as users explore new elements of the portfolio without constricting the abilities of each component to be atomically cohesive from a design, experience, and functional perspective.
Select experience should include proven technical, business strategy and consumer experience design capabilities. Prior experience with film and/or entertainment content and pop culture is essential, and prior experience with game development and maintenance is a major plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following, subject to approval of plans and resource allocations by the Chief Digital Office:
-Be a creative leader in tune with the movie audience, with a strong vision of how our Digital can best engage media fans
-Drive strategic vision by monitoring market trends and opportunities
-Ideate, develop, implement, improve and maintain the NCM Digital portfolio
-Integrate consumer testing, usability studies, research and market analysis into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction
-Perform A/B testing and other similar comparative evaluation techniques to measure outcomes of different designs and user experiences quantitatively. Evaluate these outcomes and make recommendations for changes.
-Ensure product quality and scalability
-Be a real-time thinker and doer who converts feedback into insights and actions on a very short cycle time
-Collaborate and create synergies across digital products, and with other elements of business
-Coordinate ideas and feedback internally, gathering requirements to help in developing product specs and creating workflows
-Influence the overall product roadmap to ensure the customer experience is unique, protected and evolving
-Define appropriate metrics and KPI to measure UX and design performance.
-Highly organized with outstanding leadership skills but also plenty of humility and willingness to collaborate and learn
-Outstanding problem-solving skills that prioritize issues and resolve scenarios in a timely and productive manner
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Understanding of how to collaborate with product, engineering, strategy and finance teams
-Ability to synthesize and present complex scenarios or findings in clear ways to inform others and make decisions efficiently
-Ability to define consumer, business and machine use cases
-Proficient use of Microsoft Office productivity suite
-Proven technical, business strategy and consumer experience product design capabilities
-Experience with the design, development and maintenance of consumer products
-Affinity for, and ideally prior experience with, film and/or entertainment and pop culture content and audiences
-Track record of working across functions without direct authority to generate output at a high pace
-Ability to maintain independent and objective viewpoints despite many competing interests from others.
-Data driven mindset and decision making.
-Passion for digital consumer products, retail, advertising and entertainment.
-Discretion regarding the product roadmap and other sensitive information is critical
-Understanding of and experience with agile product development processes. Participation in agile meetings (sprits, standups, and post mortems).
-Seven (7) years or more in user experience design
-Portfolio that displays a firm understanding of UX/UI processes and IA principles
-Experience with mass-market, consumer-facing products
-History of overseeing teams comprised of both internal and contract resources
-Must be OK working in 24/7 environments where real-time decisions are critical
-Fluency in best practices for mobile and web-based design, as well as strong knowledge of information architecture
-Track record of delivering successful products to market on time and within budget
-Strong organizational, project management and presentation skills
-History of creating team environments that are productive, fun, and encourage creative thinking and risk taking
-Passion for movies, games and technology
-Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Higher degrees and/or technical certifications a plus.
