Job Description

The RETC Syndications Director of Investment Sales will have primary responsibility as a lead relationship manager for renewable energy tax credit investors, new and existing. The Director of Investment Sales will work closely with the Head of Strategic Initiatives in product development, and especially on with a team including the RETC Syndications Director of Originations and a dedicated team (VPs, Associates and Analysts) of support personnel. Role enhances marketing of RETC syndicated funds, investment structuring and pricing, business and credit approval of transactions, closing execution and ongoing investor support post-closing of RBC’s investments in and syndication of renewable energy tax credit transactions. The RETC Syndications Director of Investment Sales will work closely with all levels of personnel assigned to the group, as well as internal RBC partners.


  • Manage the pipeline of potential investments, as well as the execution and closing of investments with existing and new investors, with the goal of:

    • maintaining or increasing volume,

    • improving velocity of closing,

    • maintaining quality of deliverables to investors,

    • maximizing profitability,

    • communicating and executing on investor needs,

    • building long-term relationships with investors, and

    • coordinating with Community Investments’ Co-Head of Originations and Sales on assigned investors, as appropriate

  • Participate in investor originations and marketing efforts in all renewable energy markets.

  • Present investment opportunities to existing and potential investors and secure investor commitments.

  • Collaborate with members of RETC syndications, Community Investments management, Investment Committees, and other internal functions to meet the needs of investors and drive departmental revenue.

  • Negotiate upper tier investment documents with investors in cooperation with external legal counsel.

  • Work with Asset Management, including Development Risk Management, to resolve property and/or portfolio level issues.

  • Assist Fund Management in capital calls and investor reporting through review and input, as requested. 

  • Perform due diligence of investment opportunities under the guidance of senior RETC personnel, including but not limited to KYC procedures, reviewing tax equity documents, attending site visits (as assigned), and on a limited basis analyzing the detailed third party reports typically associated with investments of this type (insurance reports, independent engineering studies, appraisals).

  • Support management in the negotiation of transactions through the Closing Date and final-true up / stabilization. Serves as primary or secondary point of contact with investors in each transaction until the transaction stabilizes.

  • Negotiation and input on financial modeling and disposition analysis at the end of the credit period or other dissolution event.

  • Proactively identify and escalate potential operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions on a timely basis.

  • Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities.


  • Basic Qualifications Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting.

  • 8-10 years renewable energy project finance experience and excellent quantitative and analytical skills are essential. Law degree a plus.

  • Position requires a thorough understanding of tax equity finance, legal documentation, corporate accounting, and extensive negotiation skills; Experience also required in assessing complex problems and making decisions with significant financial impact. 

  • Proficiency in MS-Office applications is required.
