The Head of Regulatory & Government Affairs will be responsible for developing and directing the Company’s strategy and objectives involving state and federal government authorities. This individual will develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, government and related authorities and industry groups in order to further and protect the Company’s interests. In addition, the individual will work with colleagues to develop a broad knowledge of the Company’s various businesses and provide analyses of proposed regulatory and legislative actions in order to determine the potential impact on the Company and develop appropriate responses.

 RESPONSIBILITIES 

Developing and implementing a forward looking and comprehensive regulatory strategy to enhance the Company’s competitiveness overall;

Managing the Company’s relationships with state and federal regulators, NAIC staff industry groups, and self-regulatory organizations;

Managing the Company’s governmental affairs consultants and lobbyist;

Developing a broad knowledge of the Company’s businesses, including the Company’s investment activities, in order to determine the impact of current and proposed regulations, and develop and execute effective strategies to ensure the Company’s interests are protected;

Engaging internal Company experts to address and influence regulatory developments;

Working with key external stakeholders, including but not limited to industry trade associations, industry participants and regulators, on regulatory matters;

Pro-actively seeking to influence modifications to existing regulations or adoption of new regulations to ensure best outcomes for the Company’s business and enhance the Company’s competitiveness;

Developing processes for keeping senior managers apprised of regulatory developments, including the impact to the Company and its products;

Representing the Company at meetings with regulators, industry trade associations and industry participants;

Serving as a member of selected industry trade association committees and working groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree required, prefer a Master's or JD 

Minimum of 8 years of experience in Regulatory and Government Affairs 

Strong knowledge of insurance and securities regulation 

Experience working with federal and state regulators including state insurance regulators and legislative bodies 

Accounting, finance and actuarial knowledge is a plus 

Enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic environment 

Strong communication skills
