Retail is the driving force of lululemon as we continue to grow & expand within North America and globally. The North America Retail Operations team ensures the guest and employee experience are best in class. Through our programs, we Bring to Life the Power of our Educators across all our channels.

The VP Retail Operations & Planning will report into the Senior Vice President, North America Retail. They will lead, elevate & execute the Retail Operations strategy under continued hyper-growth. Joining lululemon now in this role is an Opportunity to Lead the Function into a New Ways of Working as we continue to support & scale our rapidly expanding business. This includes building a vision, strategy and roadmap towards key elements like employee engagement & communication, guest experience strategy, workforce and labor planning, and analytics.

In this role, you will elevate our store teams through a People-First Approach that Truly Puts the Educators at the Heart of all strategy & decisions. This includes intentional communication that clearly articulates How & When We Listen to & Inform our Educators. Investing equally in Analytics that lead to a further understanding of how we best serve our employees & guests.

The ideal candidate will be both a Growth Architect and Collaborator – who will inspire & connect Retail Operations within lululemon’s goal to be a digitally driven, guest-centric Omni experience, that brings the power of our Educators, across all of our channels.


The VP, Retail Operations & Planning will be based in Vancouver. 

Reporting Structure

Reporting + Direct Reports: The role is a direct report into SVP of North America Retail and will oversee a team of 40+ FTEs with expected growth upwards of 55+ within the following areas:

Sales, Labor & KPI Planning

Store Analytics & Reporting

Day-to-day operations including In-Store Experience

Employee Engagement and Store Communications

Omni Educator Program & Evolved Store Org. Program

The Future of Physical 5-year Capabilities Strategy

North America Retail Strategy & Investment Roadmap

Operational Excellence & Compliance

Peer Relationships: The VP Retail Operations & Planning will sit on the North American Retail Leadership Team and work closely with all of its members: VP USA Retail, Senior Director Alternate Channels as well as cross functional Leaders within Global Guest Innovation, Mirror, Retail Integrated Marketing & Community, Digital Omni, Store Development, Brand and Product.


Responsible for employee engagement including strategy, communication, tools, compliance and listening for all North America Stores as well as learnings & tools leveraged for international markets.

Responsible for Global Labor operational model and workforce planning, including strategy and implementation in all Global markets.

Supports in identifying and advocating for new infrastructure/technology for our stores. 

Responsible for retail optimization. Standardization and compliance/process improvement & measurement this includes upholding the daily standards of operational excellence in our stores, and identify and communicate opportunities for improvement

Leads the Day-to-Day Operations function of the department in support of organizational objectives.

Contributes to overall Global Omni Guest experience strategy.

Manage & cultivate people performance, development, recruiting and pipeline for North America Retail Operations team.

Creates programming to enroll stores and retail leaders in operational plans

Owns the reporting and analysis for all retail initiatives including break glass. Oversees annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily sales and KPI planning for NA Retail. Manage QBR dashboards and facilitate QBR process.

Generate insights to help inform retail strategy and direction.

Fosters strong partnership with senior leadership and key partners across the company to enroll the organization in a vision for global labor planning success.

Works with multiple store formats as well as a fully built out set of omni programs.

First, Develop a Vision & Strategy that defines Retail Operations Excellence. This Strategy & Roadmap will put the Educator at the heart of everything we do. This Strategy will have clear intentions & articulations of the following:

Educator Engagement & Communication. Will have built out a clear Educator Engagement strategy that articulates when we listen, how we listen, when we react, when we inform. And most importantly how we ensure consistent & meaningful feedback loops with our Educators & Store teams.

Sales, Labor Planning & Analytics. Support us on our continued successful evolution journey in Sales, Labor Planning & Analytics. 

Continue to develop elevated labor planning in being more proactive, as well as ensuring labor planning is connected to educator engagement. This global engagement strategy connects labor to engagement over the next 5 years. Develop strong relationships with the Finance team to plan strategically & develop evolution frameworks together.

Continue building upon our robust Retail Analytics program for North America that is at the forefront of key initiatives and speaks to the health of the business. Leveraging data to enable elevated business decisions, as well empowering our retail leaders to maximize business outcomes.

Retail Technology.Act as a key influencer in the Retail Technology strategy with the lens of elevating the overall educator & omni guest experience.

Team Structure & Evolution. The team will have a clear understanding of goals & responsibilities, as well as where we connect & partner within Retail Operations and cross-functionally. Build team structures that elevate the members of the team & the work. Encapsulates future-forward strategic investments in tools & resources against growth & scale milestones.

Second, Build & Execute a 3-5 Year Roadmap that enables the Vision & Strategy. Lead our Annual Strategic Initiatives process that aligns towards foundational investments that bring the strategy and roadmap to life. Process includes annual budgeting for current & future focused investments. 

Streamline Operational Complexities that supports an entrepreneurial performance mindset.Leaning into a holistic experience that provide a best-in-class omni guest (consumer) experience that takes the removes tasks that do not bring value to our stores, leaning into automation where relevant. Through this work, you will enable a culture of entrepreneurialism across the Retail team that balances Growth, Operations & Business Ownership. 

Build Cross Functional Relationships across Digital, Omni & Guest Innovation teams. Listen & collaborate with Retail leadership teams. Enable proactive program planning & communication.

Candidate Criteria – “Must-Haves”

A Deep Understanding of Retail Operations & Planning in Vertical Retail environment. You have meaningful experience in leading & overseeing a Retail Operations function in a vertical retail environment.This includes expertise in employee engagement & communication, retail labor planning, retail technology and retail analytics.

Already a Proven + Gifted Leader of teams + businesses. 15+ years of experience leading teams.

Prioritizes the Educator (Employee) Experience through People First Programs. You have demonstrated experience in building programs that put employees at the center. You naturally take a people-first approach that results in increased efficiency & profitability.

Experience in Enhancing Retail Operations through elevated Analytics & Innovative Programs. You have a strategic mindset & proven track record to drive strategy. You are passionate about the retail experience and evolution of the industry. You are at the forefront of innovating retail programs leveraging employee feedback, data & analytics to elevate & innovate the guest (consumer) experience that connects the physical & digital.

A Track Record of Leveraging Innovative Solutions to enable an Omni Workforce within a retail setting. Track record in designing programs that put innovative programs at the forefront. Passionate about the future of retail creating best-in-class solutions for our employees & guests. You are a thought leader across our Retail, Innovation & Technology teams.
